Everton have reportedly made Leicester City striker Kelechi Iheanacho their priority in the summer transfer window.

The 26-year-old could follow James Maddison, Harvey Barnes and Youri Tielemans out the door and back to the Premier League this summer following the Foxes’ relegation, with Everton now targeting the Nigeria international.

Iheanacho has blown hot and cold at times, but at his best he has delivered some sublime performances, and could have been an excellent attacking option in the Championship.

Journalist Ignazio Genuardi has reported that Everton are actively pursuing Iheanacho after missing out on Moussa Dembele, as Sean Dyche’s side aim to add another attacker in this window.

Should Leicester sell Iheanacho?

The attacker has just one year remaining on his Leicester contract, and the club may be resigned to losing him this summer given that there is Premier League interest in him.

The former Manchester City youngster scored eight times and provided five assists in 35 appearances last season, and adds a speedy presence upfront.

If he was happy to stay, he could have exploded into a deadly forward in the Championship given his pace and dribbling ability, and it easy to see why Everton want him.

Former manager Brendan Rodgers described him as “top class,” and overall he has a good record for the club, having scored 55 and assisted 33 times in 206 appearances since arriving in 2017.

Capable of playing both upfront and on the wings, Iheanacho combined well with Jamie Vardy, as well as leading the line on his own, and Leicester will now be tasked with finding his replacement.

Stephy Mavididi is set to arrive, with Conor Coady, Mads Hermansen, Callum Doyle and Harry Winks all joining the club this summer, but with Iheanacho now likely to leave, Enzo Maresca may have to dip into the market again to bring in another option.
