Leicester City have received bad news in their pursuit of Watford winger Yaser Asprilla.

The Foxes have turned their attention toward strengthening their attack in the final week of the transfer window.

Steve Cooper has so far made six first-team additions this summer, which included winger Abdul Fatawu signing permanently.

Oliver Skipp joined Leicester City ahead of their meeting with Tottenham Hotspur to further strengthen their midfielder after the exit of Kiernan Dewsbury Hall but a move for a new forward is now the priority.

Leicester did appear close to signing Wilfried Zaha on loan from Galatasaray, but that move now looks to be on the backburner.

With a deal for Zaha fading, Leicester turned their attention to Yaser Asprilla, who appeared to be closing in on a £21m move to the King Power Stadium from Rennes.

However, reports this week have now claimed that Girona are the top candidate to sign Leicester target Asprilla.

With this in mind, Leicester City News have picked out three players the Foxes can sign instead of Asprilla.

Morgan Whittaker

Morgan Whittaker is one of the fastest rising stars in the Championship at present as is expected to make the step up to the Premier League in the near future.

Whittaker joined Plymouth Argyle from Swansea City last summer and enjoyed a prolific debut campaign in Devon.

He found the net 19 times and provided eight assists in 46 league outings despite Plymouth as a team struggling.

The right winger has attracted transfer interest already this summer, with new manager Wayne Rooney dubbing him ‘fantastic’ in response to said links, as per Birmingham Live.

He said: “I have said this before, Morgan is a fantastic player and I’m really enjoying working with him. We value Morgan very highly. Anything other than a crazy bid, we won’t be entertaining.”

Raheem Sterling

Leicester signing Raheem Sterling a few months ago would have been very unlikely, even with their new-found Premier League money.

However, former Foxes boss Enzo Maresca has made his feelings on Sterling clear this week, confirming he will struggle to get any regular minutes at Chelsea under him.

The England international is now expected to depart Stamford Bridge this summer, presumably for a cut-price fee given the Blues have made it very blatant that he is not wanted.

A transfer is still somewhat unlikely given Sterling will demand a high wage but it would be a serious coup if Leicester can pull it off.

Emi Buendia

Emi Buendia joined Aston Villa from Norwich City in 2021 and was previously a key player for the Midlands outfit.

He has scored nine and assisted nine in 78 outings across all competitions, offering Unai Emery plenty of versatility across the forward line.

However, the arrival of Morgan Rogers from Middlesbrough earlier this year has seen the Argentine’s game time reduced.

He failed to complete 90 minutes in Villa’s last five Premier League games of 2023/24 and was left on the bench against West Ham United last weekend.

Buendia also only has two years left on his contract, meaning this summer would be the perfect time for Aston Villa to try and move him on.
