Former Leicester City favourite Caglar Soyuncu could be on the move once again in January.

During his five-year stay at Leicester City, Soyuncu earned plaudits and fans for his solid defensive displays.

The Turkish centre-back established himself as a no-nonsense, yet modern defender with all the necessary attributes to play at the top level, and he became an in demand name following his release in the summer.

Soyuncu earned a move to Atletico Madrid but after just half-a-season in Spain, reports coming out of Turkey are suggesting that the 27-year-old could be on the move in January.

Caglar Soyuncu’s Atletico struggles

Soyuncu earned an exciting move to La Liga in the summer with Atletico, and Atletico signed a likewise player.

But since moving to Spain, Soyuncu has made just four appearances in the league, and just five in all competitions.

Soyuncu is yet to make a competitive start for his new club having been largely deployed as a late substitute in games, so it’s certainly not been a pleasant first half of the season for the former Leicester City man.

Fenerbahce desperate to land Turkish international

Now, reports coming out of Turkey have suggested that Turkish giants Fenerbahce are desperate to sign Soyuncu on loan in January.

It’s said that Fenerbahce want Soyuncu to bolster their title push and that the former Leicester City man is keen to retain his place in the national side ahead of next year’s Euros.

So it looks like a move could be beneficial all round and Fenerbahce would be signing a Premier League proven player in Soyuncu.

Why it hasn’t worked out for him in Spain remains to be seen; Atletico have a distinct style of play under Diego Simeone and maybe it just doesn’t suit Soyuncu.

But he showed with Leicester City that he’s a player who can perform at a top club level and Fenerbahce would be another exciting move for him, and it would surely keep him in Turkey’s plans ahead of the Euros.

He’s a hardened defender who can really prevail in a passing, and technical side, and he was certainly a favourite during his time at the King Power with many Foxes fans bound to be surprised by his current exile in Madrid.

Up next for Enzo Maresca‘s side is a trip to West Brom this weekend.
