Enzo Maresca has explained what made him ‘most happy’ about his side’s win over Sunderland at the King Power last night.
Leicester City made it eight wins on the bounce as they scraped through a difficult test in Tony Mowbray’s Sunderland.
This means Leicester have 36 points from just 13 games, losing one and winning 12 of their opening 13.
An eight-point gap to second, although Ipswich have two games in hand. But to third place, there is now a 14-point gap which is an incredible amount.
But despite all these wins, Enzo Maresca has suggested last night’s was his favourite.
Maresca on Sunderland win
In the aftermath of the win, Maresca was speaking to the media which has been reported by Leicestershire Live.
After heaping praise on Harry Winks, Maresca gave his verdict on the game.
“It’s been a very tough game. But it’s the game I’m most happy about in terms of the way we handled a different kind of game.
“The first 20 minutes we struggled to find the right measure of how to press, and then after 20 minutes we pressed very well. We were very aggressive.
“On the ball, first half, we were quite good, second half we played too many long balls. Also, there is another team there to make a difficult game.”
Another challenge passed with flying colours
Facing Sunderland is likely one of the harder challenges Maresca will face this season in the Championship, and as usual, he passed with flying colours.
The game was tight and a close one to call but in winning a game in that manner it was shown Leicester have the heart to win in difficult games too, as opposed to steamrolling everyone.
The next big challenge for Leicester will come a week on Friday with Leeds United visiting the King Power.
Maresca no doubt will be confident of winning the league this season, and another few wins and it’ll start to seem a formality rather than anything else.
In the near future, the all-important top-of-the-table clash with Ipswich will be on the mind too, as it is just two months away.
