Leicester City midfielder Harry Winks provided yet another brilliant display for Enzo Maresca’s side last night.

The 27-year-old joined the Foxes for around £10 million from Tottenham Hotspur in the summer, with his quality really standing out.

Last night was another example of Winks’ qualities as he controlled the midfield alongside Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall and Cesare Casadei.

Former Spurs man Winks has started every Championship game so far under Maresca, with the Italian demonstrating his trust in the experienced midfielder.

High praise once again for Winks

Leicester Mercury delivered their player ratings from the 1-0 victory over Sunderland last night.

Jordan Blackwell, Leicester City’s writer for the Mercury, gave Winks an 8/10 for his display which saw him boss the midfield.

Blackwell claimed Winks was ‘everywhere’ and that he is a ‘superb player’ – after his ability to get the ball in defensive areas and transition into an attack.

During his 90 minutes last night, he made 58 passes at a completion rate of 94%, five of which were into the opposition’s final third.

However, his defensive display was just as impressive with four tackles and seven ground duels won as he helped preserve the Foxes’ lead after James Justin’s early goal.

Potential signing of the season

It may only be early days in the Championship season, but Leicester look well on their way to securing an immediate return to the Premier League.

Winks has been pivotal in the middle of the park with his leadership and experience – qualities that have allowed the club to reach the second-division summit.

With seven months left of the season, Winks has to keep up his high levels of performance to push the club back to the top flight at the first attempt.
