West Ham added to Leicester City’s misery on Thursday night. Graham Potter’s side handed the Foxes their 18th defeat of the season.

Leicester City were beaten 2-0 by West Ham in an away game they failed to turn up for. As a result, the Foxes remain 19th in the table with just 17 points from 27 games.

And while the pressure is on Ruud van Nistelrooy, the players must take their share of the blame with two stars picked out for their lack of effort against the Hammers.

Two Leicester City players accused of not running against West Ham

Facundo Buonanotte was recalled to Leicester City’s starting lineup, and the pressure was on the Argentine to perform.

Jamie Vardy and Bobby Decordova-Reid were also tasked with leading the Foxes’ line, but the pair failed to match Buonanotte’s effort.

As spotted by LCFC Data on X, formerly Twitter, there was a brief moment during the first half, when the score was still 1-0, when Buonanotte was closing in on the Hammers’ box in search of an equaliser.

Unfortunately, the South American, who was surrounded by opposition defenders, had no options due to Vardy and Decordova-Reid casually jogging as far back as the half way line.

Out of character

Vardy may be 38 years old but his ability to get up and down the pitch has not wained. The former England international remains one of the Premier League’s busiest players.

However, the fact that he failed to spot the opportunity Buonanotte had forged is a worrying sign of the times at Leicester City.

If the Foxes’ most iconic player — a player with 198 club goals to his name — is struggling to get motivated, what chance do the rest have of staying in the top flight?

Leicester and Vardy now have just 11 league games left to save their season.
