Leicester City were beaten at the death by Manchester United in controversial fashion as Harry Maguire scored the winner from an offside position.
Ruud van Nistelrooy and Ruben Amorim have had tough starts to their careers and their futures were the talking point heading into the game.
Both sides were desperate for a win to distract them from their Premier League form and despite an uneventful first half it was the Foxes who took the lead.
Some excellent footwork from Bilal El Khannouss allowed him to cut the ball back to the returning Wilfred Ndidi, whose shot was saved by Andre Onana before rebounding off of Bobby De Cordova-Reid’s head.
It took an age for United to get into the game and minutes after Caleb Okoli’s clearance was an undeserved equaliser for the hosts as Joshua Zirkzee tapped home from close range.
Once again though it appeared that the Foxes’ luck ran out as former Leicester defender Maguire scored at the very death but it wasn’t without controversy as Maguire headed home from a free kick despite being in an offside position.
Leicester will now have just the Premier League to focus on.

Starting XI
Mads Hermansen – 6
Didn’t really have much to do. Will be disappointed with conceding the goal but he is still getting up to speed after his injury lay off.
James Justin – 6
Had a decent first half but couldn’t cope with Garnacho, who terrorised the right-hand side of the pitch.
Wout Faes – 6
Didn’t do anything good or bad of note and considering Faes has been criticised this season, to not make any headlines is probably a good thing for him.
Caleb Okoli – 7
Made an incredible goal line clearance in the second half to deny a certain goal for Alejandro Garnacho that was vital to the win.
He deserves to start against Arsenal next week.
Luke Thomas – 7
A really solid performance at left back for Thomas. Dealt with Patrick Dorgu and Amad Diallo really well and could feel somewhat hard done by to not have played the full 90.
Wilfred Ndidi – 8
Sometimes you don’t realise how much you’ve missed something until it comes back and Leicester can certainly say that with Ndidi.
The defensive midfielder was composed on the ball and led by example with the captain’s armband. His tackling and positioning was brilliant and he looked like he had never been away. Welcome back, Wilfred.
Boubakary Soumare – 7
Glides with the ball at times and makes things look so effortless. Carries the ball well in possession and helped out with defensive duties.
Jordan Ayew – 6
Didn’t do a lot and often slowed the play down when in possession.
Bilal El Khannouss – 8
It’s getting to the point where we are running out of superlatives for El Khannouss. Looked lively on the ball and played a huge role in the goal with some excellent footwork before cutting it back.
Now that some of Leicester’s other key players are back, he’s only going to get better.
Bobby De Cordova-Reid – 6
Was in the right place at the right time for the goal but didn’t do a whole lot else. Like Justin, struggled to cope with Garnacho and was eventually subbed.
Patson Daka – 5
You’d have been forgiven for wondering if Daka was actually on the pitch. The forward was non-existent and barely threatened the Man United attacking line.
Without Jamie Vardy, Leicester have no presence in a centre forward position and that’s a big concern.

Substitutes
Woyo Coulibaly – 6
Did well in another appearance off the bench.
Harry Winks – 6
Was given lots of time in the middle of the park to find passes and travel with the ball. Still gave away possession cheaply at times, but was solid enough.
Kasey McAteer – 6
Spent the majority of the game helping Justin to stop the threat of Garnacho so couldn’t do much from an attacking perspective.
Facundo Buonanotte – N/A
Didn’t have enough time on the pitch to do anything.
