Leicester City welcome Sheffield Wednesday for a clash in the Championship tonight.
Leicester’s dominance at the top of the Championship is unrelenting and after piecing together a three-match winning streak, it doesn’t look like stopping.
The Foxes are primed to comfortably win promotion back to the Premier League and follow last year’s winners Burnley in breaking the 100-point mark.
Enzo Maresca’s side are currently 12 points clear of third place Leeds United as the comfort of holding such a huge gap has relieved pressure from the Italian.
This evening, however, they face a team which they drew against three months ago.
Jeff Hendrick’s 93rd-minute equaliser saw Sheffield Wednesday snatch a point in November. During that time, the Owls were 12 points adrift of safety, but that gap has since been sliced to five.
Although there are 49 points and 22 places between the two sides, Leicester will not be taking their opponents lightly, especially after dropping points at Hillsborough.
David Prutton makes Leicester City vs Sheffield Wednesday prediction
Sky Sports pundit David Prutton has made his prediction ahead of the match and like the majority, expects the hosts to win comfortably tonight.
He wrote: “Leicester are cruising away. Every time you think there is the smallest of chances they could get dragged in, they go and reel off another few wins on the bounce to pull even further ahead of the pack.
“Sheffield Wednesday got a massive, massive win on Friday night over Birmingham. But this is not the game they would have wanted to run into to try and build momentum. It’s got home win written all over it.”
Prutton predicts a 2-0 win to Leicester here, although after watching Wednesday dispatch Birmingham City on Friday night, the visitors do carry a threat on the counter-attack through the likes of Ian Poveda and Ike Ugbo.
Leicester to build more momentum
Leicester have secured three wins on the bounce and unless Wednesday have a huge upset up their sleeves, it’s difficult to see anything other than a home win.
This was reinforced by the news of Jannik Vestergaard being fit to start after suffering an injury against Stoke City, while Patson Daka is in the form of his life.
On Saturday, his well-taken penalty took him to seven goals in 10 Championship matches this term and the Zambian will be licking his lips against a side who have conceded the second most goals on their travels (30).
The Championship can throw up surprises and the Owls snatching a result from the King Power would be one of those, however, Leicester have shown enough professionalism this term to allow that not to happen, and they can continue building more momentum by claiming victory tonight.
