Leicester City manager, Enzo Maresca has come out in support of Mads Hermansen despite the mistake that led to Blackburn Rovers’ equaliser.

Sammie Szmodics levelled the scores just minutes after the Foxes took the lead through Wout Faes early on.

Hermansen took the goal kick quickly and then received it back even though he didn’t appear to want it.

The Dane passed it into Harry Souttar’s feet who lost out to the Blackburn press before Szmodics smashed past the keeper.

What has Enzo Maresca said about Mads Hermansen?

Maresca has come out in support of his keeper already this season as he isn’t naive to mistakes.

When asked about the error, he said: “In that goal, the mistake from Mads is not because he plays. He has to play. But he has the choice.

“He should not play with Harry. He has to take a different decision. At the end, we need to learn, it’s normal.”

His pass to Souttar put him under pressure and gave him little to no chance of keeping possession.

Goals like that will happen, but they need to be kept to a minimum.

Maresca knew this for a fact: “It’s going to happen again, no doubt. If you see Brighton two weeks ago, they concede like this.

“When you want to play from the back, you have to take risks and it doesn’t matter, we keep it going.”

This Leicester side is new to each other and the way of playing, so it will take time to learn and grow into the style.

On that, the Italian said: “Probably for us, it’s a bit different because we just started three months ago.

“So for them to accept the mistake, they are not going to accept it the same way as different teams that are already working with this idea for two years or three years. It’s different.”

The manager was happy to see that the mistake hadn’t affected any of his players and their confidence.

Discussing that, he added: “Mads continued to play which is a good signal. It means we have a good personality.

“This is the way we want to play. So I’m very happy with the personality we showed today but especially the way we faced this very difficult team.”

The mistake occured in a comfortable win in the end, so it could be much worse. He will put this behind him to continue pushing on.
