Leicester City manager, Enzo Maresca has praised his side’s wingers for their impact in the Foxes’ 3-1 win against Swansea City.

Despite originally going behind, Leicester City were able to come back from behind to secure an 11th win in 12 matches.

The Foxes were 1-0 down after a 20th-minute Matt Grimes goal. Jannik Vestergaard got his first goal of the season to bring the scores level.

Abdul Issahaku scored his first goal for City as he put Enzo Maresca’s side in the lead.

Kelechi Iheanacho wrapped up all three points as he came off the bench and scored just three minutes later. Securing a great comeback and an impressive three points.

What has Enzo Maresca said?

Typically the Italian’s side looks for half spaces, often through Harry Winks and Ricardo Pereira. This wasn’t possible against the Swans.

Speaking with the Leicester Mercury, Maresca pointed out: “They tried with their wingers to close our pockets, so the space was outside.

“Not only today, if you remember in the last game, at home, the two strikers were marking Ricardo and Harry, so it’s quite clear the space is not inside, it’s outside.”

As a result of this, the manager opted for a focus on wing play which saw Issahaku get on the scoresheet.

This tweak allowed the Foxes to exploit Michael Duff’s side and come away with the win.

Discussing the wingers, he said: “We need our wingers to behave the way they behaved today.

“It doesn’t matter five times out of 10 they lose the one-on-one, but the other five, we can cause problems. This is the way.”

Importance of tactical changes

What has made Leicester’s charge up the Championship so different is the way they go about their business. It is different to anyone else.

Squad rotation has been discussed in the past and that is seemingly continuing.

This has been added to by a willingness to alter tactically from game to game and this is what happened against Swansea.

With that being said, a focus on possession and creating plenty of chances is always there for Maresca’s men.
