Enzo Maresca tells Leicester City ace yet to make his debut to ‘be patient’

Enzo Maresca has advised Tom Cannon to remain patient in his quest for first-team football at Leicester City.

Young striker Tom Cannon was signed by Enzo Maresca during the last transfer window from Everton following an impressive season for Preston last year.

Cannon scored eight Championship goals in 20 games while on-loan which earned him his move to Leicester City.

However, upon his arrival at the club, he had some troubles. Injury issues have meant he hasn’t properly had the chance to bed in and impress Maresca yet.

He recently returned to training and with both Kelechi Iheanacho and Patson Daka heading to AFCON in January, Cannon could be in line for some football.

Now, Maresca has sent a message to Cannon urging him to remain patient.

Maresca sends Cannon a message

Leicestershire Live has now reported that Maresca has been both full of praise for Cannon but also urging him to be patient.

“Tom is completely fit. He has trained for many weeks. The only problem is that he has to be patient. He is a striker and we have Jamie, Kele, and Pato. It’s complicated. Tom has to continue to work.

“Tom has full energy. He can help us off the ball a lot. His finishing is very good.”

Last week, Maresca was told that Cannon is a natural goalscorer and this should see him starting sooner or later.

However, Jamie Vardy had something to say about this, as he banged in a brace over the weekend to rubbish claims that Leicester needed to replace their striker.

After the game, James Justin labelled Vardy ‘top’ in a review of the striker’s resiliency.

We imagine in January though, Maresca will be forced into rotation as four players are set for AFCON inclusion.

This should benefit Cannon who would be in line for serious game-time likely as an understudy to Vardy.
