Leicester City have been blessed to have many talented players wear the shirt over the years.

From World Cup winner Gordon Banks to current Leicester legends like Jamie Vardy and Andy King, there have been some icons down at Filbert Street and current home ground, the King Power Stadium.

Given the sheer volume of players who have represented the Foxes, some names have gone under the radar and may have even forgotten had played for the club.

So what better way to remember it than with us, here at Leicester City News as we look at five players you almost certainly forgot played for the club.

Hossein Kaebi

Hossein Kaebi is one of the most fascinating players to have represented Leicester City.

Kaebi was an Iranian full-back who impressed in the 2006 World Cup, where he caught the eye after he marked out a young Cristiano Ronaldo out of the game when Iran faced Portugal.

Leicester chairman at the time, Milan Mandaric, was so enamoured that he demanded then-manager Martin Allen to sign him.

During an appearance on the Big Strong Leicester Boys podcast, Allen revealed he was shocked by how small the 5’5 Kaebi was. He played three times for the Foxes before being released in February 2008 – the same year the club were relegated to League One for the first and only time in the history of Leicester.

Nolberto Solano

The Peruvian star was a household name at Newcastle United, best known for his free-kicks, had a brief spell with the Foxes in 2010.

After deciding to return from his homeland to England, Solano reunited with Nigel Pearson, who had been his assistant manager at Newcastle.

Solano stayed until the end of the 2009/10 season before leaving with Pearson to join Hull City after making 13 appearances.

Roberto Mancini

Yep, the Roberto Mancini who was in charge of Manchester City for the famous Sergio Aguero winner was once a player at Leicester.

Mancini’s time with the Foxes was short but sweet as he arrived on loan from Lazio at the age of 36. The Italian played five times after joining on loan in January 2001, failing to complete a full 90 minutes before leaving for personal reasons in February, only to become the manager at Fiorentina.

Despite his fleeting stay, Mancini credits Leicester for being the reason why he fell in love with English football. You’re welcome, Man City fans.

Yakubu

Joining on loan in January 2011, Yakubu may well be one of the most impressive loan signings made by the Foxes in recent years.

Yakubu was lethal in front of goal and scored 11 goals in 20 games, including a sensational strike against East Midlands rivals Derby County.

Sadly, the Foxes were unable to agree a permanent deal after Blackburn Rovers won the race for his signature, but you can never understate his impact.

Dion Dublin

Now known for his role on Homes under the Hammer, Dion Dublin was a true journeyman and he even spent a small chunk of that in the East Midlands with Leicester.

Dublin only spent 18 months at the club following his release from Aston Villa but failed to make much of an impact, scoring four goals in 36 appearances as the Foxes were relegated from the top flight.

The forward then lost his place in the starting XI before being released in January 2006, with his biggest highlight being a header against Charlton Athletic to book a place in the FA Cup quarter-finals.
