Leicester City have been blessed to have some incredible players over the years.

The likes of Kasper Schmeichel and Jamie Vardy can consider themselves to be modern day Leicester legends. You then have names such as Frank Worthington, Mike Stringfellow and more who were adored in the 60s, 70s and 80s.

From Premier League titles to League Cup successes, they’ve all had a role to play. But imagine a world where the 11 best players in Leicester history were all in the same side. What would it look like?

Fear not, Leicester City News has broken down what the best Foxes XI of all time would look like.

Leicester City’s best XI of all time

Gordon Banks

We’re only at the goalkeeper position and this is already difficult. So many options from Schmeichel to Peter Shilton, but Gordon Banks must take this accolade. Not only did he win the World Cup whilst at Leicester, he was well renowned as one of the best goalkeepers of all time.

John Sjoberg

The epitome of Leicester icon. Sjoberg spent 15 seasons with Leicester and was part of the infamous Foxes team dubbed ‘The Ice Kings’. Born in Glasgow, he made the move to Filbert Street in 1958 and was part of the first team to win a major trophy when they lifted the League Cup in 1964.

Matt Elliott

Mr hard as nails himself Matt Elliott. Honestly, there’s about eight or nine strong nominations for the centre-back role including Robert Huth and Gerry Taggart but it’s one of the Foxes captains that takes the honour. He scored two goals in the 2000 League Cup final win and was one of Martin O’Neill’s trusted servants. Oh how Leicester could do with a player like him now.

Wes Morgan

Captain, leader, legend. Wes Morgan is one of the greatest Leicester players of all time and was the skipper for two of the best moments. Those iconic pictures of Morgan lifting the Premier League title in 2016 before hoisting the FA Cup aloft five years later. Considering he joined from arch rivals Nottingham Forest for £1m, he didn’t do half bad, did he?

Steve Guppy

An excellent crosser of the ball, with Kevin Keegan once claiming he had a better delivery than David Beckham, Steve Guppy was a very popular figure during the O’Neill era. The likes of Emile Heskey (who doesn’t feature in this XI) thrived off his ability and many believed that Guppy should’ve earned more than one England call-up in his life.

Muzzy Izzet

Responsible for one of Leicester’s greatest goals of all time, an overhead kick against Grimsby Town, Muzzy Izzet is again up there for best players of all time. Thanks to midfield partner Robbie Savage, Izzet was able to flex his technical ability and formed a crucial part of the Foxes’ first real golden period.

N’Golo Kante

One season wonder is a term used to define a player who has one good campaign but never fails to hit the heights. In N’Golo Kante’s case, however, it’s because he only spent one season at the club. Kante was told to stop running by Claudio Ranieri in the title-winning season and all of his teammates claim he was the most important figure in the famous year. 70 per cent of the Earth is covered by water, the rest by N’Golo Kante.

Gary Lineker

When making best XI’s, there’s always going to be one player who is out of position. Gary Lineker is that man. Traditionally a striker, Lineker came through the Foxes academy and was a ruthless goal scorer. It was his Filbert Street days that made him the player he went on to become. Understandably, kids grew up idolising the local lad, who still has plenty of love for his boyhood club.

Riyad Mahrez

Not much was known about Riyad Mahrez when he signed for Leicester in 2014. Little did everyone know he’d be one of Leicester’s greatest January signings of all time. From turning defenders inside out to having the best first touch in world football, Mahrez was a genius. Since his departure, there hasn’t been a player who has gotten fans off their seats like he did.

Arthur Chandler

As Leicester’s all-time leading goal scorer, it is impossible to leave Arthur Chandler out. I’d be surprised if anyone reading this grew up watching Chandler play but never say never. The legendary forward scored over 250 goals for the Foxes and holds the record for the most goals scored in a game, six against Portsmouth in 1928. He’s also Leicester’s oldest goal scorer aged 39 years and 34 days.

Jamie Vardy

Last, but by no means least, Jamie Vardy rounds off this XI. Vardy has broken countless records over the years and without doubt the most popular figure to have played for Leicester in the 21st century. He’s won pretty much everything there is to win during his time in the East Midlands and the day the forward is going to be one that will take some time to get over.

Honourable mentions

Of course, there will be some players that didn’t quite make the list that could’ve arguably been included.

The likes of Andy King, Emile Heskey, Steve Walsh, Danny Simpson, Youri Tielemans and more can all feel hard done by not to be included.

What it does suggest that Leicester have been blessed with some truly wonderful players over the year and it will be interesting to see who can force their way into the XI.
