Former Leicester City flop bought for record fee now has 17 more career goals than Jamie Vardy

Jamie Vardy has been Leicester City’s most valuable player for years, it’s just a shame he couldn’t make it work with one player.

Leicester City signed Jamie Vardy from non-league side Fleetwood Town in 2012 for £1m.

The 37-year-old’s career is very much a fairytale story, going from playing outside the EFL to becoming one of the most prolific strikers in the club’s and Premier League history.

Vardy broke Ruud van Nistelrooy’s record of most consecutive games scored in during the Foxes’ historic Premier League winning campaign of 2015/16.

He has also won promotion with Leicester a few times and led the line en route to FA Cup and Community Shield glory.

Despite now coming toward the end of his playing career – turning 38 next month – Vardy remains the Midlands side’s top scorer in 2024/25.

However, while there is no doubting the Englishman’s pedigree, a former Leicester flop now has more career goals (club and country) than the veteran hitman.

Andrej Kramaric flopped at Leicester City

During the 2014/15 season, with the Foxes firmly entrenched in a relegation battle, they opted to spend big money on Andrej Kramaric.

The Croatian set Leicester back £9.5m, which was a club-record fee at the time – as per the Daily Mail.

However, despite previously excelling in the first half of that campaign for HNK Rijeka, it’s fair to say Kramaric failed to live up to his price tag in England.

In total, he made just 20 appearances for Leicester across all competitions, scoring four goals.

He was loaned to German side TSG Hoffenheim in January 2016 before joining them permanently that summer.

But while things didn’t go to plan at Leicester, Kramaric has gone on to enjoy an illustrious career elsewhere.

Andrej Kramaric has more career goals than Jamie Vardy

Vardy has played for three teams at club level during his career and lined out for England on 26 occasions.

The striker found the back of the net seven times for the Three Lions before hanging up his international boots.

At club level, meanwhile, as per Transfermarkt, he scored three in four for Halifax Town, 34 in 40 for Fleetwood, and 196 in 479 games for Leicester – giving him a total of 240 career goals.

While that is a very impressive record, Kramaric already has more career goals despite being three years younger.
