One former Leicester City attacker currently sits as the 2nd top scorer in La Liga.

Leicester City’s side has gone through serious development ever since their relegation in the 2022/23 Premier League season.

There were several key names that left the side following the relegation, including the likes of James Maddison, Harvey Barnes, Youri Tielemans and Caglar Soyoncu, all four of which have played European football ever since their exit, showing that the Foxes had some incredible talent in their side.

A rebuild was certainly needed for the side that was coached by Enzo Maresca following the relegation to the Championship, and it saw several players replaced as a result.

However, one departure from 2023 has surprisingly massively kicked on ever since his time at the King Power Stadium, and despite leaving for just a free transfer, he now ranks as the 2nd top goalscorer in La Liga so far in the 2024/25 season.

Former Leicester City attacker Ayoze Perez sits as 2nd top La Liga scorer

Former Leicester City attacker Ayoze Perez departed the club following their relegation, where he was snapped up for free by La Liga outfit Real Betis following an initial loan spell at the club.

He managed to thrive in the Spanish top flight during the 2023/24 campaign, netting nine goals in 31 appearances, and as a result earned a move to Villareal.

Perez, who has become a mainstay in the Spain national team, has had an incredible start to the 2024/25 La Liga season, scoring six goal in only seven games, with Robert Lewandowski being the only player beating him at this moment, with Kylian Mbappe scoring one less at this moment.

Ayoze Perez form highlights lack of goalscoring power in Leicester City side

It is clear that Leicester City at this moment in time would more than benefit from a player playing at a similar calibre of Perez, especially considering the former Fox has managed an average of 1.31 goals per 90 minutes, whereas Steve Cooper’s side have averaged 1.2 goals per 90.

It is simply staggering how toothless Leicester City have been up to this point in front of goal, as even though they are a side adjusting to the Premier League, they simply have not been good enough and warrant an Opta prediction suggesting they will finish in the bottom three.

There has been little of note to get excited about up to this point, and Cooper having to rely on a 37-year-old Jamie Vardy as the main goal outlet is far from the best recipe for a successful Premier League campaign.
