Gareth Southgate hasn’t had too many interactions with Leicester City over his years.
He never played for the Foxes, only ever against them, and took charge of one game at the King Power Stadium when his England side faced Switzerland in 2018.
There was also the high-profile reluctance to include James Maddison in his England squads while he was a Leicester player, but did hand debuts to James Justin, Demarai Gray and Harvey Barnes.
In fact, Leicester is a somewhat unhappy hunting ground for the former Three Lions boss, who had a moment to forget against the Foxes in 1999.

Gareth Southgate received the only red card of his career against Leicetser
Southgate was playing for Aston Villa at the time, who came up against Martin O’Neill’s Leicester at the old Filbert Street ground in 1999.
O’Neill’s team was blistering with talent all over the pitch, including the Foxes academy graduate Emile Heskey.
It was here that Southgate would endure a forgettable moment, only worsened by his 1996 penalty shootout miss against Germany, when he was given a red card for the one and only time in his career.
He told Leicestershire Live in 2018: “When I think of Leicester I think of Alan Birchenall, obviously, but then I guess it is Filbert Street because that was where I played, and that is where I got the only red card of my career.
“I got it for two yellows when Emile Heskey threw himself to the floor twice. Besides that, I have enjoyed coming here as a player.”
Leicester also went on to win the game 3-1.
Gareth Southgate’s record vs Leicester City
The former England manager had a pretty mixed record against the Foxes whenever he lined up against them throughout his career.
Across his playing days, the 54-year-old played against Leicester 15 times. It was relatively consistent across the board too, winning a third of those encounter.

It was by no means the worst but also not the greatest run against an opposition side. With Southgate out of work currently, we may one day see him as Leicester manager.
