Harry Winks has revealed the details of his conversation with Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola after Leicester City’s latest defeat.

Winks was spotted speaking to Guardiola shortly after the Foxes were beaten by Man City.

It was Winks’ second start under Ruud van Nistelrooy after the midfielder had spent the early stages of his tenure on the sideline.

The number eight is one of Leicester’s most important players and it’s no surprise to see that there has been an improvement in the team’s all-round performances since he became available again.

Guardiola is never shy to speak to opposition players and at full time he was spotted in the centre circle engaging with Winks, Jannik Vestergaard and other members of the Leicester team.

What Pep Guardiola said to Harry Winks at full time of Leicester vs Man City

There was plenty of speculation online as to what the conversation between Winks and the Man City boss was about.

Some Foxes supporters were even left angered by seeing the 28-year-old smiling during the chat but after days of waiting, Winks has revealed what was said between the pair.

Speaking about the interaction, he said: “He (Guardiola) said a couple of nice things and mentioned about last season with Enzo. But he’s the best of the best. It was nice to have a conversation with him.

“As players before the game, we said that we needed to play with the ball and rest with it. It’s difficult to play in any game in the Premier League and sit deep and soak up pressure because any team can break you down and cause problems.

“We have to get back to enjoying the ball, keeping it, and resting with the ball. That’s the only way we are going to score, and we have to get back into the mindset of enjoying it.”

Winks’ effect on the game was apparent as Leicester recorded more than 500 passes against Man City – something only seven other teams have done to a Guardiola-managed City team.

Gary Neville claimed Harry Winks could play for England

Winks is one of Leicester’s most experienced players given his Premier League experience in the past.

He also has previous history on the international stage and made 10 appearances for England, scoring one goal.

His last cap came in 2020 but with a new era beginning under Thomas Tuchel as of 1 January 2025, Gary Neville said in October that he could be the missing piece for The Three Lions.

Neville said: “Harry Winks is a player who you think could play at international level.

“I know he has played at international level, but I look at him and think England lack a player who can get us playing. And he is very good at that. He might be better suited to international football actually than club football.”
