Leicester City will need Jamie Vardy on top form if they are to secure a positive result against Everton on Saturday.

The Foxes finally saw their unwanted seven-game losing streak in the Premier League come to an end this past weekend.

Ruud van Nistelrooy managed to guide Leicester City to a 2-1 win over Tottenham Hotspur, climbing out of the relegation zone in the process.

However, Spurs have massive injury problems currently and while it was a huge result, the Midlands outfit can’t afford to get carried away.

Everton have improved a great deal since David Moyes returned to the club, winning their last two matches after previously securing just three victories in their previous 20.

If Leicester are to come out on top at Goodison Park, they will need Jamie Vardy to be at the top of his game.

Jamie Vardy should break Teddy Sheringham record this season

Leicester’s reliance on Vardy has been a concern this season, with it no coincidence they lost all of their seven games when the striker wasn’t providing any goal contributions.

The 38-year-old remains, despite likely being in the final year of his career, the club’s biggest goal threat by some distance.

After netting against Tottenham, he now has seven goals and three assists in the English top flight in 2024/25.

Currently, former Manchester United star Teddy Sheringham holds the record for most goal contributions in the Premier League when aged 38 or over (13).

Vardy could break that record against the Toffees with a hat-trick or an assist but even if he doesn’t do it this weekend, he seems certain to knock Sheringham off his perch at some point before the season draws to a close.

Ruud van Nistelrooy comments on Jamie Vardy Leicester City future

Sheringham will not be the first Manchester United legend the Leicester ace has taken a record from.

During the club’s historic title-winning campaign, Van Nistelrooy saw Vardy break his record for most consecutive Premier League games scored in.

The Dutchman is, of course, now managing the former England international and after his latest goal, made a prediction about the number nine’s future.

He said: “It’s difficult to look into the future, but if I look at it now, at a 38-year-old striker in the Premier League who is performing like he is, with his fitness levels and his intelligent movement in and out of possession, and the leader that he is for us, it’s remarkable.

“The way he looks after himself, for me it implies he can carry on for a long time.”
