How Jannik Vestergaard really feels about being dropped by Leicester City

Jannik Vestergaard has found time at Leicester City tough recently.

Although Ruud van Nistelrooy was fine about Vestergaard’s dog-related incident where club staff officials were shocked to see the defender walking his dog around the Leicester training ground, the 32-year-old hasn’t been seen since.

Despite that, the former Southampton man was included in Denmark’s squad for their Nations League clash against Portugal, with Vestergaard producing a ‘colossus’ display in the first leg.

Vestergaard impressed against Portugal again on Sunday but even he is aware that his lack of game time at club level could hamper his chances of playing internationally long-term.

Jannik Vestergaard not thinking about Leicester struggles

The love affair for Vestergaard when playing for his national team is a far cry from what Leicester fans have witnessed this season.

His performances at Premier League level are the reason why the Foxes have the second-worst defence in the top flight.

That contribution has seen him excluded from the squad entirely, but that doesn’t appear to be bothering the 32-year-old.

He told Danish outlet Bold: “We are in a difficult period at Leicester, where we have not performed, and I have not been in the last two games.

“I don’t take it too seriously. It’s great to be part of Denmark’s victory, especially when the Park is full. There aren’t many experiences like that, so I choose to enjoy it.”

Jannik Vestergaard’s care-free comments sum up Leicester’s season

Of course, Vestergaard is only talking about himself and although he has been out of the lineup in the last two games, could be reintroduced against Manchester City on 2 April.

But, hearing the words ‘don’t take it too seriously’ won’t sit well with Foxes fans.

Any player not featuring must be busting a gut to get back into the XI. That doesn’t seem to be the case with Vestergaard and sadly sums up the defeatist attitude inside the club right now.

Relegation isn’t confirmed at the moment, but it will be much sooner than anticipated if this continues.
