A former Leicester City player made his first-ever professional start for Liverpool this week.
Leicester City are set to face off with Wolverhampton Wanderers in a huge Premier League meeting this weekend.
The Foxes will have a full week to prepare for the game as they were not in cup action in midweek.
The Midlands outfit began the Carabo Cup campaign with a 4-0 win over Tranmere Rovers before seeing off Walsall in the third round of the competition.
Leicester then faced Manchester United in the following stage when their new boss, Ruud van Nistelrooy, was in the Red Devils’ dugout.
It was a harrowing defeat for Steve Cooper, who watched on as Manchester United smashed the Foxes 5-2.
While no current Leicester stars were in cup action this week, one former player did make his first-ever professional start.

How former Leicester City man Trey Nyoni fared during Southampton vs Liverpool
Liverpool faced a trip to St Mary’s on Wednesday evening for a clash with one of Leicester’s relegation rivals, Southampton.
Arne Slot’s main priority this season looks to be the Premier League title, with the Dutchman using the Saints match to hand chances to a few fringe and young Liverpool players.
One such star was former Leicester academy graduate Trey Nyoni, who left the King Power Stadium in the summer of 2023.
The midfielder made his senior Liverpool debut off the bench in the Carabao Cup final last season but was given his first-ever professional start by Slot against Southampton.
He played 86 minutes and here’s what the national media have said about him after the match.
The Daily Express gave him a 6/10 and wrote: “A great night of experience for the 17-year-old on his first senior start, but did not do a whole lot to affect the game.”
The Daily Mail wrote: Trey Nyoni (7). Plenty of encouraging signs on the 17-year-old’s first start for Liverpool as he showed a maturity beyond his years and showed he can play at this level, regularly getting on the ball and interchanging throughout midfield. Replaced for Jayden Danns late on.
Local outlet Liverpool Echo said: “Looks so calm and confident on the ball. A threat down the left as he linked up well with Gakpo, rarely misplaced a pass and carried it forward well. But he was much quieter after the break as Southampton fought back. Subbed,” giving him a 6/10.
While Sports Illustrated wrote: “The electric youngster signed from Leicester and featured in the famous Carabao Cup final win over Chelsea last season, Trey Nyoni has been the one everyone has been excited to see develop. Eighty-six minutes played in his first senior start, controlling the game from midfield with his academy compatriot Tyler Morton. Hard to judge him off just this one performance, but his involvement across multiple phases of the game is something to be very excited about. He looked very, very composed on the ball for someone who is only 17 years old.”

Trey Nyoni stats for Liverpool vs Southampton
The 17-year-old played 15 times for Leicester’s U18 side, scoring two and assisting one.
He never really got a chance to prove himself in the Midlands but his first-ever senior start suggests he has a bright future ahead of him.
While perhaps not ready to play regularly for Liverpool in the Premier League, Leicester may be disappointed they sold him as he clearly has a lot of potential and more then held his own against top-flight opposition.
