He was sold by Leicester for just £3m, now he’s outscoring Jamie Vardy with 10 goals in 16 games

Leicester City are enduring a difficult season in their first season back in the Premier League.

The Foxes have sacked Steve Cooper and are now under Ruud van Nistelrooy’s stewardship, which so far is proving to be an upgrade.

Van Nistelrooy has picked up four points from a possible nine, which isn’t bad going for a side battling at the foot of the table.

But, evidently, there is still a long way to go for Leicester and they’re in desperate need of January reinforcements.

A striker should be top of their wishlist as they need support for Jamie Vardy, who is approaching his 38th birthday.

So, with that said, City must wish they didn’t sell one of their former strikers who’s now ripping it up and outscoring Vardy.

Leicester must regret selling Chris Wood for £3m

Leicester City signed Chris Wood from West Bromwich Albion in January 2013, following a prolific loan spell with Millwall.

The towering centre-forward went on to net 20 times in 62 outings for The Foxes before being let go for just £3m to Leeds United in 2015.

Wood then firmly established himself as one of the best strikers in the Championship and earned a £15m switch to Burnley, where he enjoyed a productive Premier League career.

A mega-money switch to Newcastle United beckoned, though, it wasn’t long before he’d be on the move again to Nottingham Forest, where he has catapulted himself to Premier League stardom.

Wood has scored 10 goals in just 16 outings this term and is only behind Mohamed Salah, Erling Haaland and Cole Palmer in the top scorer charts.

City must be watching on and really wishing they had him right now, especially since Odsonne Eduoard isn’t performing as Vardy’s deputy.

Despite Vardy’s productive season, Wood has actually outperformed him.

Wood’s exceptional performances are about to earn him a colossal new deal, keeping him among Forest’s highest earners.

The 33-year-old is now firmly in the same bracket as Andrej Kramaric – what could have been at Leicester City.
