Leicester City have made a great start to life under Ruud van Nistelrooy.

The good feeling seems to be back at King Power Stadium following van Nistelrooy’s appointment and that’s reflected in the results, picking up four points from a possible six.

That’s put Leicester five points clear of the relegation zone heading into the busy festive period, so there’s certainly a newfound belief in Premier League survival.

The Foxes return to action on Saturday afternoon as they make the trip to the North East to face Newcastle United at St James’ Park.

Ahead of the clash, Van Nistelrooy has just revealed that he could turn to a Leicester academy star due to the current injuries in midfield.

Ruud van Nistelrooy hints Henry Cartwright could get debut vs Newcastle

Speaking to the media in Thursday’s press conference, van Nistelrooy revealed that he’s been assessing Henry Cartwright in training ahead of the trip to Tyneside.

“We’ve had a week to prepare the players to play there, but also options that don’t play regularly there but might have to during the game,” van Nistelrooy replied when asked about his scarce midfield options.

“Also players from the under-21s that we’re having in our sessions, like Henry Cartwright, to see if he can do a job.”

The Foxes boss also said he’s been taking a look at Jayden Joseph, a 19-year-old full-back from the reserve side.

Cartwright profile

Cartwright, who celebrated his 20th birthday earlier this week, has been a regular for the under-21s over the last few seasons.

The 2004-born typically operates as a defensive midfielder but has played in a more advanced role at times, as evidenced by his three goals and two assists so far this term.

It’s perhaps unlikely he starts against Newcastle judging by van Nistelrooy’s comments, but there’s a fair chance of making the bench.
