Leicester City almost signed ‘phenomenal’ player, now he’s outscoring Jamie Vardy in 2024/25

Leicester City’s goalscoring issues have been a major problem this term, and it’s one variable that could result in relegation.

Leicester City set an unwanted Premier League record against Brentford in February, becoming the first team in the competition’s history to go six home games in a row without scoring while conceding at least twice in each.

Ruud van Nistelrooy’s men are the second-lowest scorers in the league, behind only Southampton, and the Foxes have been too reliant on Jamie Vardy.

Remarkably, the 38-year-old has scored 28% of their goals in the top-flight this term (7) but has found the net just once in his last 11 appearances.

While the goals have dried up for Vardy, no other player has shouldered the responsibility, and that could have been completely different.

Leicester City almost signed Adam Hlozek in 2024

It was a mostly disastrous summer in terms of transfer dealings under Steve Cooper, and the only shining lights have been attacking midfielders Bilal El Khannouss and Facundo Buonanotte.

The rest have been completely disappointing, including striker Odsonne Edouard, who joined on loan from Crystal Palace.

Leicester rushed to sign Edouard on transfer deadline day as a panic buy after missing out on several other targets, Adam Hlozek being one of them.

According to Fabrizio Romano in August 2024, Leicester agreed to sign Hlozek on loan from Bayer Leverkusen with an obligation to buy for £17 million if they remained in the Premier League.

Sadly, despite agreeing terms with the Foxes, the 22-year-old made a last-minute decision to stay in the Bundesliga and sign for Hoffeinheim.

Hlozek, who was previously dubbed a ‘phenomenal’ talent, has showcased his ability as a regular starter for Hoffeinheim after being a squad rotation player under Xabi Alonso.

It was unfortunate that Leicester missed out on the Czech Republic centre-forward, but the club can have no complaints, as they should have had multiple targets lined up.

The lack of planning from Jon Rudkin, who fans want to be sacked, has cost them in the goalscoring department and resulted in a likely relegation.

Perhaps if they successfully signed Hlozek, he would have fired them to more than just four victories this term, as he’s currently outscoring Vardy.

Although Hlozek isn’t enjoying the most profilic campaign, Leicester currently lack a forward option to challenge Vardy, and the Hoffenheim star could have become a worthy successor to the Englishman’s throne.
