Leicester City legend Claudio Ranieri is loving life back in management with his beloved Roma.

Ranieri looked set to call time on his career in football after guiding Cagliari to Serie A safety last season.

But, with Roma in crisis and looking for their third manager of the season, Ranieri returned to help the Italian giants and overseen a turnaround in form.

His most recent achievement was a win against fierce city rivals Lazio and his start to life in his third spell at Roma is reminiscent of his incredible Premier League title win in 2016 with Leicester.

The 73-year-old is adored by many, especially at the King Power Stadium, but he admitted that he was left surprised by one thing after making a U-turn on his retirement from football.

Claudio Ranieri reveals why he returned to Roma

Nobody could’ve begrudged Ranieri for wanting to retire after his incredible career.

Ranieri admitted he planned to retire during his Roma unveiling but the allure of his boyhood club was too much to resist.

Almost three months on from taking the job at the Stadio Olimpico, Ranieri revealed that his decision to retire saw him receive more job offers than after the title-winning season with the Foxes.

Speaking to Corriere dello Sport, he said: “Would you believe me if I told you that in the last few months I have received more requests than after the triumph with Leicester?

“When I realised there was still a desire for Ranieri, the desire came back to me too, but I knew I would only do it for two teams, Cagliari and Roma. They pulled me down from the Aventine.”

Claudio Ranieri’s hilarious secret to why he is still managing

It’s been over 20 years since Ranieri became a manager and yet here, in 2025, he is still doing it at the top level.

Jobs with the likes of Chelsea, Monaco, Greece, Juventus and more have all come in his career but none are more impressive than the title win with Leicester.

When asked how he has been able to adapt to the various changes in football and still get success at the top level, the Italian hilariously said: “I am Benjamin Button.”

Ranieri’s contract at Roma is until the end of the season before he is set to move upstairs into an advisory role, but, as we all know, never say never.
