Leicester City player ratings vs Walsall: Foxes limp through Carabao Cup with penalty shootout win as two players get dismal 3/10 rating

Leicester City failed to impress yet again in the Carabao Cup as they scraped through with a penalty shootout win.

Steve Cooper’s side were booed off at half-time and didn’t register their first shot on target until the 79th minute.

The Foxes spent large portions of the game under pressure against the League Two hosts and the game had to be settled by a penalty shootout.

Danny Ward was the hero as he saved all three of Walsall’s penalties to spare the Premier League side’s blushes and go through to the fourth round.

Danny Ward

Was called into action in the first half and made two strong saves to deny Walsall which spared the Foxes’ blushes.

Stepped up when required again in the penalty shootout, saving all three of the Saddlers efforts. One of the few Leicester players who can hold his head up high tonight. 7/10.

Ricardo Pereira

Despite being given the captain’s armband, he failed to make an impact on the game. Ricardo Pereira works far better as the attacking full-back as opposed to the one who tucks back into a defensive three when attacking. 4/10

Conor Coady

Was forced into a lot more defensive action than he probably would’ve expected and did his job.

Still very unlikely to dislodge Wout Faes in his starting XI spot. 5/10

Caleb Okoli

The only player who remained in the starting XI from last weekend’s draw against Everton and he was solid yet again.

Dealt with the pressure from the Walsall forwards well but needs to be more composed on the ball after poor touches on several occasions. 5/10

Luke Thomas

Struggled physically against League Two opposition once again and was caught out of position on several occasions.

Lack of game time may mean he is slightly rusty but Thomas is sadly not of the quality Leicester require going forward. 3/10

Hamza Choudhury

Failed to make any significant impact of note on the game but was the better of the two in central midfield. 5/10

Boubakary Soumare

If there was ever a game to sum up Boubakary Soumare’s Leicester career it was this one. So much promise but walking away feeling short-changed.

It’s almost certain that we won’t see the midfielder in action again unless there is a major injury crisis. 4/10

Bobby De-Cordova Reid

Struggling to remember any time he had the ball or created any chances.

Was poor in his previous two competitive appearances and this one wasn’t much better. 3/10

Facundo Buonanotte

One of the few players who looked capable of/willing to create chances for the side.

Good and close control with his feet and was always positive with the ball. Will almost certainly come back into the starting XI for the game against Arsenal. 6/10

Abdul Fatawu

Very quiet first half from the winger but grew into the game in the second half and became a thorn in the Wasall side.

Some questionable decision-making when through on goal at times, but seemed to get better as time went on. 5/10

Odsonne Edouard

His first start for the club but wasn’t able to stamp his mark on the game.

Lack of service made his job difficult but when given the ball, his first touch and hold-up play must improve. It’s still early days and he is still building up match fitness. 4/10
