Leicester City face a fight for survival in the 2024/25 Premier League campaign under Steve Cooper.

The Foxes dominated the Championship in 2023/24 with Enzo Maresca at the helm but have since struggled under Steve Cooper.

Leicester City made plenty of signings during the 2024 summer transfer window but Cooper is yet to get the best out of his new side.

The Midlands outfit kicked off their battle for survival with an away meeting against Champions League chasers, Tottenham Hotspur.

Leicester drew 1-1 with Tottenham in their opening game, suggesting they may fare better than people expected in 2024/25.

However, the newly promoted outfit have since fallen to defeat in their last two Premier League fixtures.

Gary Lineker is worried about Leicester after watching his side lose 2-1 to Fulham in game week two.

Most recently, the Foxes were beaten by the same scoreline against Unai Emery’s Aston Villa this past weekend.

Concerning Leicester City statistic emerges, only Ipswich Town are worse

Cooper frustrated Leicester fans with his starting line-up for their defeat to Aston Villa on Saturday.

The Leicester boss opted to start three defensive midfielders for the clash in a bid to limit the attacking threat of their Midlands rivals.

However, this plan quickly backfired with the Foxes going 2-0 down and failing to get back into the game.

One of the key things Leicester struggled with against Villa was creating any real chances, at least until Facundo Buonanotte came on.

Now, as per Fbref, after three games of the season, Leicester rank 19th in the Premier League for shot-creating actions (44) and SCA per 90 (14.67).

Only Ipswich Town, who have scored just two goals in three matches, have managed fewer total shot-creating actions (34) and SCA per 90 (11.33)

Leicester City must now rely on Facundo Buonanotte

Despite struggling against Villa, Leicester’s form greatly improved when Buonanotte was finally introduced midway through the second half.

The Argentine has been superb since his loan move from Brighton and Hove Albion and the decision to bench him over the weekend proved to be a costly one.

Buonanotte is the most creative player in the Leicester squad and Cooper will have to rely on him heavily if he wants his team to start producing more chances.

The South American has, so far, managed six shot-creating actions by himself in the Premier League this season – more than any other Leicester player.

Being a newly promoted side, the Foxes were never going to dominate too many games, but it is clear Buonanotte is the key to them actually testing teams and carving out more attacking opportunities.
