Leicester City kicked off their 2024/25 Premier League campaign against Tottenham Hotspur.

Steve Cooper and his men welcomed Tottenham Hotspur to the King Power Stadium for their first game of the Premier League season on Monday evening.

Leicester City dominated the Championship last term but have not had a great build-up to the current campaign.

The Foxes performed poorly in pre-season and struggled to make too many quality first-team signings.

In turn, Leicester have been tipped for Premier League relegation in the 2024/25 season.

So, when Tottenham made to trip to the Midlands on Monday evening, a tough outing was expected for the home side.

Pedro Porro put Spurs into the lead after 29 minutes, with the floodgates expected to open after the Spaniard’s effort.

However, veteran striker Jamie Vardy fired in an equaliser for his long-time club shortly before the hour mark and Leicester held out for a 1-1 draw with Tottenham.

Jamie Carragher and Gary Neville are in agreement over Leicester

Despite not picking up three points, it was still a huge result for Leicester in their opening clash.

Ange Postecoglou’s side were in the race for Champions League football in the previous campaign and after signing Dominic Solanke, they are expected to push into the top four this term.

So if Leicester were able to get a point off them, fans may be hopeful their team will avoid the drop this term.

However, even with that positive draw against Tottenham, Gary Neville and Jamie Carragher have both backed Leicester to go down this season.

The pair made their predictions on Monday Night Football. Carragher tipped the Foxes, Southampton, and Nottingham Forest to go down.

Neville also had Leicester and the Saints in his bottom three alongside newly-promoted Ipswich Town.

Speaking live on Sky Sports on Monday evening, the pair explained the reasoning behind their picks.

Carragher said: “I suppose they’re this season’s Luton in some ways, where they’ve been away for so long. I think it will be very hard to diminish their enthusiasm for being in the Premier League.”

“I think you saw that in the first-half with Leicester today. It’s almost like ‘we’ve been here, this is nothing new, we are a Premier League club’.”

“I think they [Ipswich] might do enough. I don’t want to see the three newly promoted clubs go back down again. I don’t think it’s healthy for the Championship or the Premier League if i’m being honest.”

Neville added on Leicester: “My fear is that the three teams do go down again.”

Can Steve Cooper avoid relegation with Leicester City

Despite the view of Carragher and Neville, Monday’s game shows Leicester should not be completely written off this season.

They still probably need to make a few more additions to their first-team squad this summer but things are looking up.

Facundo Buonanotte was praised by Leicester fans after his starring display in the 1-1 draw this week.

The Argentine created a plethora of chances and looks set to provide the creative spark that has been missing from Leicester over the summer.

After Tottenham, the Foxes are now set to take on Marco Silva’s Fulham at Craven Cottage on August 24th.

The game should represent a great chance for Leicester to pick up their first win of the campaign and give them another major confidence boost in their battle for survival.
