Leicester City will be celebrating the news that one of their players has received his first senior international call-up.

The international break is just around the corner and that means several Leicester City players will be jetting off around the globe.

Many will be involved in the upcoming Nations League fixtures while there will also be World Cup qualifiers to contend with elsewhere.

But it’s a happy moment for one Foxes first-teamer, who will be playing on the international stage for the first time.

Republic of Ireland call up Leicester City academy graduate

The Republic of Ireland announced on Thursday 29 August that Leicester academy graduate Kasey McAteer would be included in their squad for the Nations League fixtures against England and Greece.

McAteer was eligible to represent Ireland through his family and chose to play for them instead of England – where hopes of appearing on the international stage may have seemed more difficult.

He becomes the second Foxes player to choose to play for Ireland in recent months after Tom Cannon also snubbed the chance to play for the Three Lions in favour of Ireland.

When could Kasey McAteer make his Ireland debut?

The 22-year-old could make his debut for Ireland against England in Dublin on Saturday 7 September.

Ireland face their rivals in their Nations League opener before playing Greece three days later in Athens.

This latest announcement caps off an excellent couple of weeks for the academy graduate, who made his first Premier League appearance on the opening day of the season before signing a new long-term deal at the King Power Stadium earlier this week.
