The 2024 summer transfer window is on the verge of closing and Leicester City still have plenty of business to do.

Incomings are what excite football fans but some players will be moved on from any club.

Leicester City fans have already had to deal with the disappointment of losing fan favourite Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall to Chelsea this summer and with the transfer window closing at 11 pm on Friday 30 August, more will follow through the exit door.

With that in mind, here are five players who could depart the King Power Stadium before the transfer window slams shut.

Just like it was under Enzo Maresca, Tom Cannon is struggling to make an impression on Steve Cooper.

Cannon was signed for £7m in the 2023-2024 season but was forced to miss the first third of the campaign due to injury.

Since recovering however the former Everton man has failed to make an impact, starting just three games for the Foxes.

On some occasions, the likes of Stephy Mavididi have even been preferred and with the recent signing of Jordan Ayew and another number nine expected to come in before the deadline, his days look numbered.

Several second-tier clubs are interested in the striker and he is likely to be the subject of plenty of bids heading into the final few days but his departure feels like a matter of when rather than if.

Reports after the 2-1 defeat to Fulham suggested that Wout Faes had become frustrated with life in the East Midlands and was looking for a new challenge.

Faes has been a near ever-present since joining the club in 2022 but was left irked after being asked to play on the left-hand side of defence at Craven Cottage.

Earlier on in the transfer window the Belgium international also suggested he would explore any options that arose.

This one feels more unlikely than others on the list but all it takes is one good offer.

Ben Nelson (loan)

Highly regarded at Leicester, this is a year that Ben Nelson could do with a solid season of first-team football.

Given the strength in depth at the centre-back position Nelson is likely to find game-time hard to come by and at the age of 20, the England youth international needs to play.

He’s already had two loan spells at Rochdale and Doncaster and reports have claimed that Championship club Bristol City are eyeing up a loan for Nelson.

Should he perform well, he would be more than ready to challenge for a regular first-team spot.

Daniel Iversen

There are lots of goalkeepers on the Foxes’ books and despite links to Luton Town’s Tomasz Kaminski, some need to go.

Danny Ward is one of those who needs to move on, but his wage is likely to prove to be a stumbling block meaning he will probably leave when his contract expires at the end of the season.

Iversen arrived with plenty of promise and was given the chance to keep the Foxes up in the Premier League after excelling in loan stints at Preston North End and Rotherham United. That didn’t come into fruition and the Danish shot-stopper has been left out in the cold.

At the age of 27, he is no longer a hopeful prospect but someone in danger of letting his career fade away if he doesn’t get a move away.

A cut-price deal may have to be agreed but saving on wages and bringing in some cash will always be better than none at all.

Will Alves (loan)

Will Alves excelled on his return to senior football in his brief cameo against Tranmere Rovers on Tuesday night.

He may still only be 19 but the confidence to want the ball as much as he does is a trait that leaves fans always wanting more.

Alves is capable of playing the odd cameo role in the Premier League but playing first-team football regularly week-in-week-out will aid his development far more than an appearance off the bench every once in a while.

The arrival of Facundo Buoanotte and the imminent signing of Bilal El Khannouss also means that he will find chances hard to come by.

One year away on loan will then give him a chance to stake his claim for a place in the XI next season.
