Wout Faes has been a near-ever present for Leicester City since joining the Foxes in 2022.

After being signed to replace Wesley Fofana, who departed for Chelsea, Wout Faes has been busy at the King Power Stadium.

Following relegation from the Premier League in his first season at the club, Faes was instrumental in guiding the Foxes back to the top flight by winning the Championship.

Now in his third full season at Leicester City, Faes appears crucial to Steve Cooper’s plans as the East Midlanders look to avoid an immediate return to the second tier.

According to Capology, Faes earns a salary of £50,000-a-week, equating to £2,600,000 for the 2024-2025 season, making him one of the club’s slightly higer earners.

When did Wout Faes join Leicester City?

Faes officially joined the Foxes on 1 September 2022, signing from French club Reims for a reported fee of £15m.

He made his debut in a 6-2 defeat against Tottenham Hotspur on 17 September however he made a positive start to life in a Leicester shirt, recording five clean sheets in the next seven games.

The Belgian unfortunately became the fourth player in Premier League history to score two own goals in the same game when Leicester were beaten 2-1 by Liverpool on 30 December 2022.

Despite scoring his first goal for the club on the final day of the 2022-2023 season against West Ham, the Foxes were relegated to the Championship.

They would go on to win the league at the first time of asking, earning Faes his first piece of silverware.

Wout Faes stats

Wout Faes started his career at Belgian giants Anderlecht, joining from Lierse in 2012 before signing a professional contract at the former.

As a youngster he was of interest to the likes of Chelsea and Manchester United but remained loyal to Anderlecht.

He then started training with the first team from the 2015-2016 season and even captained the youth team to the semi finals of the UEFA Youth League that season.

Loan spells at Dutch clubs Heerenveen and Exclesior before leaving Anderlecht permanetly in 2018 to join fellow Belgian side Oostende.

After a strong campaign, which saw Faes take the captain’s armband on some occassions, Oostende sold Faes to Reims on 31 January 2020 – who then let him finish the season in Belgium.

Relegation followed at the end of that season and Faes spent two years in France, featuring in the Europa League qualifiers for the Ligue 1 outfit.

Two years later he would then sign for the Foxes.

After emerging through the youth systems in Belgium, Faes was first called up to the senior squad in November 2021 for World Cup qualifiers against Estonia and Wales.

He made his international debut in a 6-1 Nations League victory over Poland on 8 June, 2022.

Following a strong start to the 2022-2023 season he was then called up to Belgium’s 2022 World Cup squad alongside then-Leicester teammates Youri Tielemans and Timothy Castagne.

His most recent venture for Belgium saw him appear in every game of their Euro 2024 campaign as the Red Devils reached the round of 16 before losing to France.
