Leicester City will set new club record with defeat against Newcastle – it hasn’t been done in 141 years

It has been a dismal season at the King Power Stadium.

After Leicester won the Championship, the Foxes came into this campaign hopeful that they could avoid an immediate return to the second tier.

The opposite has come true, however, Leicester currently 12 points from safety with just eight games to play.

They have set numerous unwanted stats along the way, Ruud van Nistelrooy even matching a 65-year-old record following defeat at Manchester City as he became the first top-flight manager to lose seven consecutive games twice in the same season since Freddie Cox with Portsmouth in 1958-59.

And it could get even worse for the Dutchman if Leicester lose to Newcastle on Monday night.

Leicester have never lost 11 home games in a league campaign in their 141-year history

As reported by BBC Sport in their preview of the clash with the Magpies, Leicester have already lost 10 games at home in the Premier League this season.

Three of these came under Steve Cooper, with van Nistelrooy losing a further seven since he was appointed Leicester manager.

Leicester City’s home results in the 2024/25 Premier League season

With the club having never lost 11 league games at home in a single season in their 141-year history, defeat against Newcastle would set a shameful new record.

In a boost to Leicester’s chances, though, Eddie Howe has revealed multiple Newcastle players could miss out through injury.

Yet that hasn’t stopped Chris Sutton and Paul Merson predicting a Newcastle win, both pundits believing the Foxes won’t score, either.

Leicester’s remaining home fixtures this season

If Leicester do avoid defeat against Newcastle, they still have three home games to navigate this campaign.

Two of these come against the other promoted teams, Ipswich Town and Southampton.

Both failed to beat Leicester at the King Power Stadium last season, with Leicester also avoiding defeat at Portman Road and St Mary’s this campaign as well.

However, before those two games are played, Leicester welcome runaway Premier League leaders Liverpool.

Van Nistelrooy therefore has his work cut out if he is to preserve a modicum of the club’s pride.
