Leicester may have just been handed Premier League lifeline following ‘ugly’ moment from Wolves main man

Leicester’s time in the Premier League seems to be fading away under Ruud van Nistelrooy.

The Foxes have suffered four consecutive defeats, leaving their survival hopes looking bleak at best.

Tottenham away aside, Van Nistelrooy’s men have only managed one Premier League win since December – a damming record which has left them on measly 17 points heading into the final stretch of the season.

Despite the stats saying Leicester will be relegated, the Foxes may have actually been handed a small boost in their survival chances from their relegation rivals.

Matheus Cunha red card may present opportunity for Leicester

Having been eliminated by Man United in the fourth round, Leicester were not in FA Cup action this weekend. Relegation rivals Wolves, however, were on cup duty, facing off against fellow Premier League outfit Bournemouth.

Wolves would lose out on penalties against the Cherries after playing out an entertaining 1-1 draw in regular time. The result, however, was clouded over by a reckless red card from Wolves star man Matheus Cunha.

Having got his side level with a stunning long range strike, the Brazilian would then let his team down getting himself sent off after lashing out at Bournemouth’s Milos Kerkez.

Speaking on the incident, BBC punidt Martin Keown told Match of the Day:

“I have not seen that on the football pitch since the 1970s – he just lost it. The referee had to send him off. They couldn’t get him out of the ground. This was the ugly part and it is something he has to stop.

“Wolves need points to stay up. He will be a huge loss.”

Cunha suspension could hurt Wolves massively

With five points currently separating Wolves and Leicester, the big difference between the two sides has been the lack of match winners within the Foxes squad.

Cunha’s 13 goals this season have won Wolves countless vital points and his absence could have a huge impact on their run-in.

The Brazilian is expected to miss a minimum of three games following his violent spat – meaning he could miss big fixtures against Everton and Southampton in the coming weeks.

With Wolves missing their main-man, Leicester now have the chance to pounce – whether the Foxes can take advantage, is another question entirely.
