Leicester City loanee Yunus Akgu has enjoyed a great start to his career in England with the Foxes, and that is being translated on the international stage.

The 23-year-old started and scored in the Turks’ 4-0 win over Latvia, and came off the bench in their 1-0 win away at Croatia, with both victories all but confirming their qualification for Euro 2024.

His performances and striking abilities for his nation are now being recognised across Europe.

Akgun has had his goal against Latvia nominated for Goal of the Round by UEFA. His stunning strike was a flick up with his left foot, before smacking it into the top left corner with pace and accuracy.

His goal has been nominated alongside former Fulham and Newcastle striker Alexsandr Mitrovic, former Liverpool and Stoke winger Xherdan Shaqiri, and Chelsea winger Mykhaylo Mudryk.

Whilst we are yet to see Akgun score for Leicester, we certainly know now that he is capable of scoring wonderful goals.

Akgun goal should boost his confidence

So far Yunus Akgun has made six appearances in the Championship this season, starting in three of those.

Predominantly playing on the right hand side cutting in on his favoured left foot, he has also played in central midfield, too.

Akgun’s performance against Latvia will hopefully boost his confidence coming back to the club after the international break. Despite the goal, he put in a brilliant performance against Latvia.

He played 76 minutes before being brought off, but made three dribbles and three passes into the final third.

Akgun will hopefully use this performance to break into the starting line up on a regular basis, something he has failed to do so far since joining on loan from Turkish giants Galatasaray.

Foxes fans will now be hoping this goal and performance could be a turning point in his career.
