Leicester City defender, Ricardo Pereira has opened up about the Leeds United defeat believing his side were good but could have been better.

Leeds United travelled to face Leicester City in a top-of-the-table Championship clash, formerly of the Premier League.

It was a game dominated by Enzo Maresca’s men but they couldn’t make their possession count and score.

Some static defending by the Foxes saw Georginio Rutter able to smash the ball into an empty net.

Despite 66% possession, only 0.65 xG were created by the home side compared to Leeds’ 1.39.

What has Ricardo Pereira said?

Given the control of the ball, Maresca’s style of play was carried out as he would have liked it to.

With that being said, the Foxes failed to create enough clear-cut chances on the day which saw them lose.

Speaking with the Leicester City official channel, Ricardo Pereira believed the performance was good enough despite the defeat.

Discussing the defeat, he said: “There were a lot of good things in the game. We’re disappointed with the result.

“If [Dewsbury-Hall’s chance] goes in, it’s a different game, but the ‘keeper made a very good save. We had some chances, but this happens.”

The Foxes had a very late chance which fell the way of the Englishman but was well saved by Illan Meslier. With that late chance squandered, the result was secured.

On the performance, Pereira added: “I think we played well. We knew they were good in transitions. I think we dealt well with that but that’s football, sometimes it happens.

“We knew, if we played their game on the transition, it would be tough for us because we could not control the game.”

Defeats have and will happen this season, it is unrealistic it imagine a season where they wouldn’t lose at all.

The plan and tactical work continues: “We were patient. We’ll analyse the game. Even when we win, we’ll analyse to see the things we could improve, the things we didn’t do as well as we wanted.”

Next time out against Middlesborough, the Foxes have got to get back on the winning trail and resume the great run.
