Former title-winning defender Robert Huth has named the Leicester City player who he thinks is ‘pivotal’ to their Premier League survival hopes.
Leicester are sitting dangerously close to the relegation places in the top flight, sitting just three points above 18th place Crystal Palace.
It’s a position many expected The Foxes to be in at the start, including several supporters, but that hasn’t stopped fans from calling for Steve Cooper to be sacked from his job.
Cooper’s men were most recently beaten by Manchester United in the Premier League, although they were missing Jamie Vardy through injury, and he’s been one of their few shining lights this term.
Robert Huth thinks Jamie Vardy is ‘pivotal’ to Leicester City staying up
Vardy has been Leicester’s goal machine for over 12 years now, as he continues to prove why he’s arguably the biggest bargain in the club’s history.
Now aged 37, the English sharpshooter has plundered four goals in 10 league appearances this term, including a vital strike in the win over Southampton.

Robert Huth played alongside Vardy at the King Power Stadium, as the German helped Leicester win the Premier League title in 2015/16 while appearing 93 times for the club.
Huth is now 40 years old and retired from the professional game six years ago while his former teammate is still banging in the goals, and that doesn’t surprise him in the slightest.
The towering German labelled Vardy a ‘freak athlete’ and believes he’s ‘pivotal’ to Leicester staying in the division.
“Surprised? No. He’s just one of those freak athletes who stays lean and stays fast,” Huth said via talkSPORT’s YouTube channel.
“Probably last time he played in the Premier League he did struggle a bit with his goals tally but this time I think he’s looking good. They’re playing a bit more towards the strengths so, yeah, he’ll be pivotal to Leicester staying up.”
When will Vardy return from injury?
The international break perhaps came at the right time for Leicester, as they’re winless in their last four matches in all competitions.

With time for Cooper to prepare for a busy Christmas schedule and a run of games that could decide their season, the Welshman will also welcome back some of his key first-teamers, including Vardy.
Although he confirmed the devastating blow that Ricardo Pereira is out for three to four months, Vardy’s back injury doesn’t sound too serious and it is hoped he will return after the break.
When speaking about the strikers’ injury, Cooper said: “Jamie Vardy has a back injury and we will have to see how he is, but Ricardo Pereira is out for three or four months.”
In the loss to Man United, it was the first league game this season that Leicester didn’t manage to find the net, and it’s no surprise that Vardy was absent.
Huth is right; any chance of the Foxes avoiding relegation falls at the feet of their incredible talisman who sets the standard with his goals.
