Ruud van Nistelrooy has a serious job on his hands if he is going to keep Leicester City in the Premier League this season.

The Foxes earned a swift return to the top flight in 2023/24, dominating the Championship to clinch the league title.

However, after Enzo Maresca and star player Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall both left for Chelsea over the summer, it was clear Leicester City were going to be up against it when it came to surviving this term.

Steve Cooper did a pretty poor job during his short stint at the King Power Stadium, with only two wins picked up from 12 league fixtures.

This saw the club dangerously close to the bottom three, with Opta predicting Leicester to finish 19th back in late September.

Cooper was eventually dismissed in November and Ruud van Nistelrooy is the man now tasked with keeping the Midlands outfit up.

Ruud van Nistelrooy given Leicester City Premier League relegation prediction

The Dutchman has only taken charge of two games but Gary Lineker has given a positive verdict on Van Nistelrooy this week.

The ex-Manchester United striker kicked off his stint with a 3-1 win over West Ham United.

This was followed by a 2-2 draw with Brighton and Hove Albion this weekend, which saw Leicester come from 2-0 down to rescue a point against the Europe-chasing side.

After the latest round of Premier League fixtures, Opta have now assessed the club’s survival chances with 14 games gone.

Opta have ran 10,000 simulations for the remainder of the 2024/25 Premier League season and they have revealed that Leicester are relegated 46.3% of the time.

While that isn’t exactly great news, it is down from down from the 50.5% they were given after beating West Ham.

Leicester City relegation chances compared to Premier League rivals

Though Leicester’s chances of being relegated remain high, they are currently not the most likely team to be plying their trade in the Championship come 2025/26.

Southampton are relegated a staggering 97% of the time in Opta’s 10,000 simulations.

The next most likely team to be relegated are Ipswich Town, who go down 87.9% of the time.

Wolverhampton Wanderers look set to be Leicester’s closest rival in the survival race with 47.2%.

Everton are also in with an outside chance of being relegated at 14.2%.
