Leicester City were beaten 2-0 by Arsenal in the Premier League thanks to a late brace from substitute Mikel Merino.

Up until Merino scored his first goal in the 81st minute, Leicester City were right in the game, defending resolutely against the Gunners and looking a threat on the counter-attack.

However, once the Spaniard scored his second goal moments later, there was no way back for Ruud van Nistelrooy’s men, who fell to their 10th league defeat in 12 matches.

On a day when Leicester fans protested against Jon Rudkin, the underfire Foxes director of football, Van Nistelrooy also witnessed his right-back James Justin go off injured in the 43rd minute.

The Dutchman has since provided an update on the Englishman, and unfortunately, the extent of his injury is yet to be revealed.

Ruud van Nistelrooy shares James Justin injury update

Justin is one of few Leicester players to have started every game under Van Nistelrooy, continuing his run against Arsenal.

The 26-year-old has often been criticised by sections of the fanbase for his poor defending this term, although he shackled Raheem Sterling well in the first half.

Woyo Coulibaly then came on and arguably did a better job than Justin, taking his chance to impress, with Van Nistelrooy now sharing an update on the right-back.

“We have to assess and he couldn’t carry on,” he said via BBC Sport. “Hopefully it’s nothing bad.”

Van Nistelrooy then added: “It was an unfortunate moment to take him off before half-time. He couldn’t continue so it’s definitely something.”

The fact Justin couldn’t continue suggests he has got a minor injury problem, and while it is sad for him, it opens the door wide open for Coulibaly.

Woyo Coulibaly was excellent against Arsenal

Since Coulibaly completed his £3m transfer from Parma, he hasn’t had a lot of opportunities to impress, only coming off the bench in the dying embers against Tottenham and Everton.

The Frenchman did, however, perform well in the defeat to Manchester United last Friday, replacing Luke Thomas at left-back.

And he was even better in the defeat to Arsenal on Saturday, producing an incredible defensive display to deny Sterling and whoever else tried to take him on.

Woyo Coulibaly’s stats vs Arsenal

Coulibaly was a man mountain at the back for Leicester and regardless of whether Justin’s injury is serious or not, he deserves to start at home to Brentford.
