One of Ruud van Nistelrooy’s former Manchester United teammates has offered his help to the struggling Leicester City boss.

Van Nistelrooy has endured a tough start to life at the King Power Stadium and has lost seven of his last eight games in charge of the Foxes.

Leicester are 19th in the Premier League table at the moment and the Foxes are looking at signing up to five players this month in a bid to avoid the drop.

Another area that hasn’t changed much is Leicester’s backroom staff, with Brian Barry-Murphy and Jelle ten Rouwelaar the only appointments so far.

But, maybe that will change and Van Nistelrooy will take up the offer of one teammate.

Jaap Stam offers to join Ruud van Nistelrooy at Leicester City

Throughout his playing career, Van Nistelrooy has been fortunate enough to play with some world class talents.

Jaap Stam is one of those, however, the pair only played together briefly after Stam was controversially sold to Lazio two months after his Dutch counterpart’s arrival in 2001.

They did play together for the Netherlands on the international stage though and the former defender, who has had managerial experience in the past with the likes of Reading, Feyenoord, Cincinnati and currently DOS Kampen, admitted that he would be willing to help the struggling Foxes manager out.

He told Viaplay: “Yes. Maybe if I go into training for two weeks I can still play a few balls.

“If Ruud were to call, I would definitely do that.”

Jaap Stam could help solve Leicester’s defensive issues

It’s not hard to find what the main problem has been for Leicester this season.

They may have failed to score in five of Van Nistelrooy’s nine games, but their defence is a much bigger issue.

At the time of writing, Leicester have conceded 48 goals and have the worst backline in the league with Southampton (50) and Wolves (51) the only two teams worse off.

Stam was known in his playing days for being one of the best defenders in football. His organisational skills and understanding of the position could help to bring out the best of players like Wout Faes, who could still leave Leicester.

It wouldn’t be the worst idea by any stretch of the imagination.
