The offer Lazio have now made to sign Leicester City player Wout Faes

Leicester City boss Ruud van Nistelrooy could see some of his first-team stars exit the King Power Stadium this month to raise some invaluable funds.

The constraints of PSR mean Leicester are working with a small budget in January, and will have to spend their money wisely.

Leicester confirmed the £3m capture of Woyo Coulibaly from Serie A side Parma on Wednesday evening, becoming the first signing of the window.

Ruud van Nistelrooy is now hopeful of further signings this month, especially after the Foxes were beaten for a sixth straight Premier League game by Crystal Palace.

To make further transfers possible, though, van Nistelrooy could cash in on some of his players, with striker Tom Cannon wanted by Sheffield United and Sunderland after being recalled from his loan at Stoke City.

Cannon isn’t the only player being linked with a move out of the King Power Stadium, as defender Wout Faes is attracting the attention of some European giants.

Lazio want to sign Wout Faes on loan

Reports emerged on Monday that Faes could leave Leicester this month amid transfer interest from Europe.

The Belgian centre-back joined the club in 2022 from Ligue 1 side Stade Reims, since amassing over a century of appearances.

The 26-year-old has seen consistency plague his time in England, with Leicester setting a seven-figure asking price for Faes, and will consider offers of around £15 million.

It seems unlikely that van Nistelrooy would let him leave on loan but according to Il Messaggero, as relayed by NoiBiancocelesti, Serie A giants Lazio have already put forward an initial loan deal with an option to buy the centre-back permanently.

This is because Lazio are enduring ‘technical problems’ in the transfer market, and would therefore prefer to capture the player on loan.

However, such an offer shouldn’t persuade Leicester to part company with Faes temporarily, with his chances of leaving looking incredibly slim.

Faes highlights why Leicester are in dire straits

Leicester’s PSR problems have stemmed from paying over the odds for players who don’t make a significant return on their price tag.

Faes, who they signed for £15m nearly three years ago, arguably shows the Foxes wasting money on a player who hasn’t delivered consistent performances.

The Belgian international has often been criticised by the fanbase for his lack of concentration in games but funnily enough, he’s probably van Nistelrooy’s best defender currently.

Considering how inconsistent he is and his capacity to make errors, the fact that Faes is better than Jannik Vestergaard, Conor Coady and Caleb Okoli just shows how much Leicester need a centre-back.

So, with that said, Faes should only leave the club if Leicester find an upgrade on the Belgian.
