Leicester City are back in Premier League action this week, with the Foxes facing off against reigning champions Manchester City.

The March international break came at a good time for Leicester with Ruud van Nistelrooy’s side sat 19th in the standings and nine points off safety, with a stoppage in Premier League action needed for the Dutch manager to regroup and strategise with his squad.

With a number of Leicester players impressing on international duty, the King Power Stadium side could potentially save their season with nine games remaining, even if the first game back is against Pep Guardiola’s City.

And Van Nistelrooy has now issued an encouraging injury update for Leicester ahead of Wednesday’s trip to the Etihad Stadium.

Ricardo Pereira ‘ready’ to play for Leicester against Man City

Speaking to the press, Van Nistelrooy shares that Ricardo Pereira is ‘doing really well’ having made a full return to Leicester training, with the Foxes manager saying: “He’s doing really well and hopefully we can get him back on the training pitch today and tomorrow and try to have him ready for Wednesday.”

The 31-year-old right-back has hardly featured for Leicester this season with Pereira picking up a hamstring injury in November that has kept the Portuguese out of action since then, with the defender only returning this month against Chelsea.

With Pereira not featuring for Leicester against Manchester United, though, there were fears that the former FC Porto star had suffered a setback after featuring briefly at Stamford Bridge earlier in the month for Leicester.

However, it now appears that Pereira is fit and ready to return to the pitch after such a long absence, though whether or not the defender will start for Leicester against City on Wednesday night remains to be seen.

What else did Ruud van Nistelrooy say ahead of facing Man City?

As well as providing a positive update on Pereira, Van Nistelrooy also gave a good indication of where Leicester players are currently at in training ahead of facing City, with spirits high after the international break.

Van Nistelrooy said about training during the Premier League break: “We had less players away than here so we had a big group. We introduced some young players into the group who had a good week with the first team.

“The way we’re training, we’re doing everything to get the most out of our players. The appetite is ther to show ourselves and we have to prove that on Wednesday.”
