Leicester City face Manchester United on Sunday in a game that comes with plenty of history and narrative for the Foxes.
Ruud van Nistelrooy was appointed by Leicester after a short but sweet spell as interim manager of the Red Devils before the appointment of Ruben Amorim, with the King Power Stadium side also securing some of their most famous Premier League wins against United.
With the Manchester giants now interested in Leicester’s Mads Hermansen, the Foxes know that there will be plenty of eyeballs on this match, especially after this weekend’s results which left Van Nistelrooy’s side six points from Premier League safety.
Indeed, there’s a lot of history between these two sides in the last ten years, and United legend Sir Alex Ferguson, once showed his class in a big way by praising Leicester after their historic Premier League title win in 2016.

Sir Alex Ferguson praised Leicester for iconic Premier League title win
Speaking to GQ in 2021, the former Scottish manager spoke about small clubs breaking the mold and going on to win titles despite the odds, with Ferguson touching on Leicester’s Premier League title win from 2016.
With the interview taking place just a few days after Leicester’s FA Cup win against Chelsea in 2021, the Foxes really have fallen from their former heights in an astonishing fashion, with Ferguson’s comments a real time capsule of how good and inspiring the East Midlands side.
Ferguson said: “They were fantastic. You know, I enjoy watching Leicester, actually, because they play good football and they have a good recruitment operation. And they won the Cup. So it can be done. It can be done.
“There’s no question. We never should destroy people’s dreams. The Leicester Cities make what we want in football today. It’s not always about United or Arsenal or Liverpool. It’s about a small club that can have its day in the sun, you know?”
Do Leicester have any hope against Manchester United?
With Gary Lineker writing off Leicester’s hopes of staying up in the Premier League, optimism is at an all-time low with supporters in regards to the Foxes and their chances of avoiding the drop come the end of the season.

Yet if there’s one side that have proven time and again this season to be good for a surprise win for a struggling team, it’s United, who are set to suffer their worst campaign ever in the Premier League with the Red Devils currently sitting 14th in the standings.
And with United legend Wayne Rooney impressed with Leicester’s new defensive system against Chelsea, there is a good chance that the Foxes can pull off a much-needed win to kickstart their Premier League survival bid.
