Who is Harry Winks? Step into the life of Leicester City’s midfield mainstay

Harry Winks is one of the first names on the teamsheet at Leicester City and has become one of the club’s most consistent players.

After deciding to leave boyhood club Tottenham, Harry Winks chose to join Leicester City, winning the Championship in his first season at the Foxes.

Winks has become a fan favourite at the club and his experience will be invaluable in the Foxes’ fight to avoid relegation.

Harry Winks family and girlfriend

Winks was born to parents Anita and Gary Winks. Little is known about his family although he does have Spanish ancestry through his grandparents on his mother’s side.

There is no information to suggest that Winks currently has a girlfriend.

According to Capology, Winks is on a salary of £90,000-a-week at Leicester, equating to £4,680,000 for the 2024-25 season.

That makes him the second-highest earner at the club – behind Jamie Vardy only.

When did Harry Winks join Leicester City?

Winks officially joined the club from Tottenham on July 1 2023, for a reported fee of £10m.

He made his competitive debut on the opening day of the Championship season in a 2-1 win against fierce rivals Coventry City.

The number eight also recorded a 100 per cent pass completion rate in the Foxes’ 2-0 win away to Norwich City on October 20, 2023.

Seven days later Winks scored his first goal for the club, with a stunning effort from outside the box against Queens Park Rangers.

As of August 2024, the 28-year-old has featured 49 times for Leicester, scoring two goals.

After joining the Spurs academy as a youngster, Winks began to train with the first-team squad from a young age before making his senior debut on 27 November 2014 in a 1-0 win against Partizan Belgrade in the Europa League.

He then made his Premier League debut on 27 August 2016 in Spurs’ 1-1 draw against Liverpool.

Winks then made his full Premier League debut against West Ham United on 19 November and also scored his first goal for the club in a 3-2 win.

One of the best parts of his career was his away performance against Real Madrid in the Champions League where he received plaudits for controlling a game containing the likes of Luka Modric and Toni Kroos.

His performances even saw him start in the 2019 Champions League final against Liverpool.

Injuries hampered the latter stages of Winks’ career at Spurs and the boyhood Tottenham fan joined Italian side Sampdoria on 30 August 2022, with an option to make it permanent. They were relegated that season though and Winks returned to north London before eventually signing for Leicester.

Harry Winks international career

Winks has played for England right from the youth set-up to the senior squad.

He received his first call-up on 2 October, 2017 for the Three Lions’ games against Slovenia and Lithuania, making his debut against the latter.

That night he impressed and was named the “best performer” and “eye-catching amongst mediocrity” in a BBC match report.

His only goal for England came on 17 November 2019 in a 4–0 win against Kosovo in a Euro 2020 qualifier.

As well as England, Winks could’ve also represented Spain at international level due to his maternal grandparents.
