Steve Cooper secured a first Premier League win as Leicester City manager with the 1-0 win over Bournemouth prior to the international break.

Facundo Buonanotte scored the only goal of the game as the teenager continues to impress on loan from Brighton.

That win also handed Leicester City a first clean sheet of the season and gave Steve Cooper a real platform to build from ahead of another vital game against Southampton on Saturday.

Leicester City struggling in attack

When Cooper was confirmed as the replacement for Enzo Maresca it was not the most popular of appointments.

Cooper was best known for the work done at rivals Nottingham Forest and can come across as a little uninspiring in interviews.

There were also concerns about the style of play and those remain despite a first league win.

Cooper is viewed as a negative manager by the Leicester faithful and a statistic has now emerged that supports this opinion.

The Other 14 – who focus on the team’s outside the traditional ‘Big Six’ – posted on X a table showing the number of team shots on target per 90 minutes in the Premier League so far.

This showed that Leicester have had the joint least shots on target per game with three per game, or 21 in total.

Steve Cooper must start taking initiative at Leicester

Cooper was handed the job of keeping Leicester in the Premier League this season and, so far, he is doing that with the Foxes in 15th.

However, Leicester supporters have been left frustrated by the negative tactics and the defensive substitutions that have, at times, cost points this season.

With Leicester facing a Southampton side on just one point this season and with 15 goals conceded, Cooper must take the initiative at St Mary’s with his lineup and tactics.

It is far easier for Leicester fans to stomach negative tactics against superior sides, but against the likes of Southampton the Foxes should really be looking to take the game to their opponents.
