Leicester City return from the international break this weekend with a huge game against Southampton.

The Foxes earned their first three points of the season in their last game as Facundo Buonanotte’s first-half finish was the difference between themselves and Bournemouth.

Southampton are chasing their first win since returning to the Premier League, with Russell Martin under pressure to deliver a result.

It starts a run of three crucial games that could define the Foxes’ season and they will be happy to face an opponent that they did the double last season.

St Mary’s Stadium has been a happy hunting ground for Leicester over the past decade and no result is more iconic than the record-breaking 9-0 win on 25 October 2019.

Brendan Rodgers’ side delivered one of their greatest performances in the club’s history but since then, a lot has changed and several players have moved on. But where are they now?

Let’s take a look and see where the XI that started that famous night on the south coast are now.

Kasper Schmeichel – Celtic

Leicester legend Kasper Schmeichel was the man in between the sticks that night and had very little to do, instead watching a masterclass unfold.

Nowadays you can find him north of the border at Celtic, where he reunited with Rodgers in the summer after spells at Nice and Anderlecht.

Schmeichel has enjoyed a strong start to life in Scotland and is yet to concede a goal in the league. He was however part of the side that lost 7-1 to Borussia Dortmund in the Champions League.

He is also still playing for Denmark, keeping current Foxes ‘keeper Mads Hermansen out of the line-up – despite the 24-year-old topping the Premier League charts for most saves made this season.

Ricardo Pereira – Leicester City

Ricardo Pereira is one of three players from the starting XI that night still at the King Power Stadium.

Pereira is a fan favourite at the club but has been forced to watch from the sidelines for most of this campaign, with his only start coming in the Carabao Cup wins against Tranmere Rovers and Walsall.

The full-back has even subtly hinted his frustrations at the lack of involvement with Steve Cooper preferring to go with James Justin.

Caglar Soyuncu – Fenerbahce

Caglar Soyuncu grew into his own in the second half of his Leicester tenure before allowing his contract to run down and he left after the club’s relegation to the Championship.

The Turkey international would link up with Diego Simeone at Atletico Madrid but struggle for game time and in the summer 2024 window returned to his homeland to sign for Fenerbahce after initially joining on loan at the start of the year.

He scored the winner against local rivals Galatasaray on 19 May and has played 12 times this season at the time of writing.

Jonny Evans – Man United

Jonny Evans was another one of the players to depart after Leicester’s relegation but he seemingly fell upwards.

Evans rejoined Manchester United in 2023, planning to be nothing more than emergency cover. But, with United’s issues at the back, Evans has played far more than he and anyone else would’ve expected.

The 36-year-old has played alongside former Fox Harry Maguire and the likes of Matthijs de Ligt already and could even play against Leicester at Old Trafford on 10 November.

Ben Chilwell – Chelsea

Ben Chilwell was the man who opened the scoring on a wet and cold night in Southampton.

A product of the Leicester academy, Chilwell left at the end of the 2019/2020 season, joining Chelsea, where he still is now.

Chilwell played for Chelsea in the FA Cup final against Leicester, which the Foxes won for the first time in their history before winning the Champions League that same season.

Unfortunately for the left-back, recent times have not been so kind to him. Various injuries meant he missed out on a place in England’s Euro 2024 squad and now ex-Leicester boss Enzo Maresca has deemed him surplus to requirements at Stamford Bridge and told him to look for a move away.

Wilfred Ndidi – Leicester City

Wilfred Ndidi is the second of three players to remain in the East Midlands.

Ndidi’s future has been in doubt throughout the previous two seasons but after failing to secure a move away, stayed to help Leicester win the Championship.

There were then fears that he may not sign a contract extension after promotion before agreeing to a new deal at the eleventh hour.

Now with a new shirt number, the Nigeria international has remained a key player in Cooper’s Leicester side and has played in both defensive and attacking midfield roles this year.

Youri Tielemans – Aston Villa

Youri Tielemans was the second player to score in the 9-0 hammering at a point in his Leicester career where he was arguably at the peak of his powers.

Tielemans joined permanently in the summer of 2019 after impressing on loan and became an instant hit with supporters.

His most notable contribution was scoring the winner in the FA Cup final to etch himself and his teammates into the Foxes’ history books forever.

He left after relegation to join Aston Villa where he has become an integral member of Unai Emery’s side, helping them to qualify for the Champions League.

James Maddison – Spurs

James Maddison was responsible for the eighth goal of the night – a sumptuous free-kick that found the top corner.

Maddison was a technically gifted talent who dazzled fans with his forward-thinking and ability to create chances.

Given his quality it was inevitable he would leave after relegation to the second tier and the 26-year-old joined Tottenham Hotspur.

He started brightly in the first half of the season before injury and a poor run of form cost him his place in England’s Euro 2024 line-up.

The midfielder is a regular in the Spurs XI however and crucial to the way Ange Postecoglou’s side play.

Harvey Barnes – Newcastle United

Harvey Barnes wasn’t on the scoresheet on this night, but he was involved in several ways as he piled on the assists for his teammates.

Another academy talent, Barnes was also moved on after relegation to join the richest club in the world, Newcastle United.

His first season was derailed by numerous injuries but he has made an impact already this year and scored a wonderful goal away at Wolves.

Ayoze Perez – Villarreal

Ayoze Perez was one of two players to score a hat-trick in this famous game.

After deciding to leave Newcastle following five years in the North East, Perez’s first goals for the club came on this very night.

The Spaniard laid on the crucial assist for Tielemans’ FA Cup final winner and was a first-team regular before leaving to return to Spain.

This season Perez has been on fire for Villarreal since joining in the summer and is the second-top goal scorer in La Liga with six goals from 10 games for the Yellow Submarine.

Jamie Vardy – Leicester City

Who else but Jamie Vardy, eh?

Vardy was the second player to score a hat-trick (I wonder who took the match ball home out of him and Perez?) and scored the final goal that saw them record the biggest-ever away win in Premier League history.

The 37-year-old has been ever-present for the Foxes and scored buckets full of goals in that time.

His most recent achievement was helping Leicester return to the top flight, scoring two goals against Preston North End to seal the Championship title.
