How Man Utd could boost Leicester City survival chances under Ruud Van Nistelrooy – £21m fee discussed

Leicester City are among the contenders to be relegated from the Premier League in the 2024/25 season.

The Foxes secured promotion back to the top flight at the first time of asking under Enzo Maresca last campaign.

They were up against it before the season had even begun, however, with the Italian and star player Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall moving to Chelsea over the summer.

Opta predicted Leicester City to finish 19th back in late September, showing just what a tough task then-manager Steve Cooper was facing.

Cooper was sacked in November and Ruud van Nistelrooy has now been entrusted to keep the Foxes up.

It’s going fairly well for the Dutchman so far, with four points secured from two fixtures and a five-point gap currently open between themselves and the bottom three.

But with a horrid run of games set to begin in late December, Leicester are still well in contention to be relegated.

Leicester face Wolves next week in a tie that could prove to be so crucial come the end of 2024/25.

The Midlands outfit will need all the help they can get beating the drop and could be about to get some from Van Nistelrooy’s old club, Manchester United.

According to The Sun, Southampton forward Tyler Dibling has been scouted by Manchester United and Aston Villa.

The report, published last week, claimed the Red Devils had watched the winger in action for three games in a row, suggesting their interest is serious.

Despite only being 18 years of age, Dibling has been a crucial player for the Saints this term and Man Utd snapping him up in January would no doubt weaken them and, inadvertently, boost Leicester’s survival chances as it’s hard to see the South Coast outfit staying up without one of their best players.

What Southampton manager Russell Martin said on Manchester United interest in Tyler Dibling

With United’s links to Dibling ongoing, Russell Martin has spoken out about interest in Southampton’s latest rising star this week.

As per Sky Sports, Martin addressed the rumours of a £21m bid and suggested the Red Devils will have to pay a lot more than that to sign the teenager, while also confirming contract talks are underway with the player.

He said: “I was told some rumours about Man Utd, one was a bid of £21m. I’m not sure you’ll get his left foot for that.

“We have offered him a contract, a really good contract for someone his age. At the minute, I don’t think his agent agrees, so that’s where we’re at.”

But given the lure of Manchester United and £21m being small change compared to some of the transfer fees they have paid out in recent years, it’s hard to see Dibling remaining at St Mary’s beyond January if United really make a proper push for him, which is great news for Leicester.
