Leicester City’s PSR situation is once again under scrutiny ahead of the 2023/24 accounts being released.
The Premier League charged Leicester City with a breach of their spending rules in the three-year period leading up the the 2022/23 season in 2024.
The Foxes won their PSR case at the time but with club’s accounts set to be released soon, their financial situation is once again a talking point.
Earlier in 2024/25 News, Leicester City News spoke to finance expert Adam Williams, who provided a detailed insight into the club’s woes, highlighting a £90m loss.
“The only published set of accounts we have which are now relevant to their 2024-25 calculation – i.e., the three-year period up to the 30th June 2025 – are the 2022-23 books, which showed a £90m loss.”
Now, reports this month claim that Leicester are at risk of another PSR charge, as per The Guardian.

Leicester City may need to sell Mads Hermansen to ease PSR burden
With their finances clearly still in a bad state, player sales will likely be needed to offset any losses the club are making.
Looking at their squad, Leicester don’t have too many valuable assets, with Jamie Vardy obviously not going to be sold despite being their best player and Facundo Buonnote valued highly but on loan from Brighton and Hove Albion.
In turn, a transfer for number-one goalkeeper Mads Hermansen seems the obvious option.
Hermansen has been tipped to garner transfer interest already following an excellent start to 2024/25.
The goalkeeper was linked to Chelsea over the summer after Enzo Maresca’s arrival at the club, with reports at the time claiming the Leicester star had a £45m value.
No other player on the club’s books is likely to fetch anywhere close to that sum so if push comes to shove and sales are needed, the 24-year-old may have to depart.

Mads Hermansen injury latest
While the Dane had a fantastic start to the current campaign, he’s now missed Leicester’s last four Premier League outings with a groin problem.
The Foxes lost 2-1 to Aston Villa over the weekend and Van Nistelrooy provided a Hermansen update pre-match.
And it looks as though they will have to make do without their star shot-stopper for a couple more weeks at least.
He said: “He’s been assessed over the last week. He’s in his rehab programme. We want him to be well, 100 per cent fit, before he comes back on the pitch. There’s not a clear picture yet of how long it will be, but he’ll be out for a couple of weeks at least.”
