Leicester City fans need to direct their anger at one man amid dismal form – it’s not Ruud van Nistelrooy

Relegation is looming at Leicester City this season but fan ire shouldn’t be completely directed at Ruud van Nistelrooy.

The Dutchman has had a really tough time since arriving at the King Power Stadium in late November 2024.

Ruud van Nistelrooy picked up a huge win over West Ham United during his first match before then drawing with a Brighton and Hove Albion team who have European aspirations.

However, the following six matches the ex-Manchester United man has taken charge of have all ended in defeat.

Loses to relegation rivals Wolverhampton Wanderers and Crystal Palace were especially big blows for Leicester City.

They now sit 19th and two points from safety with 46 goals conceded in 21 matches.

Amid such a poor run of form, some fans have begun to turn on Van Nistelrooy and have even claimed Steve Cooper was a better choice.

Leicester City fans should be angry at someone other than Ruud van Nistelrooy

In Ruud’s defence, Leicester have not exactly had a kind run of games to contend with this winter.

He’s already had to face off with Newcastle United, Aston Villa, Manchester City and Liverpool.

Yes, some supporters will point toward the Wolves and Palace losses and say Leicester had to win those games, which they did.

But there’s only so much a manager can do with a team that, if we’re being honest, has been poorly stocked for several years now.

The man largely to blame for building the current Foxes team is director of football, Jon Rudkin.

Leicester fans sent a clear message to Rudkin, chanting ‘we want Rudkin out!’ in the final game before Van Nistelrooy took over.

And it’s him, not Van Nistelrooy, who fans need to be angry at right now as Rudkin’s recruitment just hasn’t been up to scratch.

Leicester City summer signings assessed

Even just looking at the players brought to Leicester over the summer, it’s so clear something has to change on the recruitment front.

Oliver Skipp has been poor since arriving at the club as their most expensive signing of the window.

Caleb Okoli could leave Leicester less than a year after he was signed and has already been dropped by Van Nistelrooy.

Elsewhere, Odsonne Edouard’s stint at the King Power has been nothing short of a disaster and Bobby De Cordova-Reid is yet to have any meaningful impact.
