Ruud van Nistelrooy could now shock fans by axing wasteful 43-touch Leicester City ace for ‘quality’ star

Leicester City faced off with Crystal Palace in a Premier League meeting on Wednesday evening, once again falling to defeat.

The Foxes earned a dominant and surprising 6-2 win over Queens Park Rangers in the FA Cup this past weekend.

Leicester City reverted to type in midweek, however, as their dismal run of form in the Premier League continued.

Ruud van Nistelrooy picked up four points from his first two games as manager but it’s been nothing but defeats since then.

Leicester lost 2-0 to Crystal Palace on January 15th, now sitting on 14 points from 21 games – two points off Ipswich Town who have a game in hand.

Leicester fans think they will be relegated this campaign after losing to the Eagles and it’s hard to blame them.

Jamie Vardy was wasteful during Leicester City vs Crystal Palace

With form awful and morale likely low, Leicester need their top players to step up in moments like this.

Jamie Vardy is the club’s topscorer in 2024/25 but his display against Crystal Palace on Wednesday was woeful.

The Foxes skipper was one of their worst players on the night barring perhaps James Justin, wasting several chances that he should have scored to give his side hope.

It was an unusually poor showing from Vardy but the stats highlight just how much he was off his game.

Patson Daka could be given chance by Ruud van Nistelrooy

Vardy is undoubtedly a club legend but with wins now a must, there’s no room for sentiment from the manager.

Van Nistelrooy tried to sign Patson Daka as PSV boss and he has since praised the striker following his arrival in the Midlands.

After returning from a lengthy spell on the sidelines, the Zambia international came off the bench to score during the Dutchman’s first game in charge.

Following that match, Van Nistelrooy praised Daka’s ‘quality’ and could now consider handing him a starting berth ahead of Vardy this week.

It would be a shocking call but with no wins from seven in the league, it’s clear something big is going to be needed to turn Leicester’s form around.
