Leicester City may still be fighting for Premier League survival, but plans for next season will already be well underway in the background.
A number of Leicester stars will leave this summer and a major squad overhaul is likely to take place – even if Ruud van Nistelrooy is no longer manager.
The Foxes should have money to spend in the Championship, but that shouldn’t stop them from looking at players who could be available on a free transfer, including a League One player putting up some impressive numbers.
Leicester City should sign Peterborough United star Kwame Poku
Goals across the pitch have been a huge problem at the King Power Stadium. Jamie Vardy is Leicester’s top scorer this season with eight, but nobody else is remotely close.
A lack of attacking threat, coupled with the absence of Abdul Fatawu and poor form of Stephy Mavididi, Kasey McAteer, Jordan Ayew and Bobby De Cordova-Reid, reinforcements are needed.
Look no further than Peterborough United’s Kwame Poku. Although he may have had a lengthy spell on the sidelines, Poku has posted some incredible numbers, with 19 goal contributions in 23 games this season.

The 23-year-old has understandably caught the eye of clubs around England, with Peterborough boss Darren Ferguson claiming he is the best in the division.
He told BBC Radio Cambridgeshire: “He’s the best player in the league. Any team would miss him.”
How does Kwame Poku compare to Leicester’s other attackers?
Whether it’s in the Premier League or Championship, a move to the East Midlands for Poku would be a step up.
Of course, if the Foxes are in the second tier, they will be one of the favourites for promotion and Poku could certainly contribute to that.
| Stats | Kwame Poku | Stephy Mavididi | Kasey McAteer | Bobby De Cordova-Reid | Jordan Ayew | Abdul Fatawu |
| Appearances | 23 | 30 | 17 | 24 | 30 | 13 |
| Goals | 10 | 5 | 0 | 2 | 5 | 0 |
| Assists | 9 | 1 | 1 | 2 | 1 | 2 |
| Goals + Assists total | 19 | 6 | 1 | 4 | 6 | 2 |
What’s most concerning is that Poku has played less games than everyone, bar McAteer and Fatawu, yet has been able to match the goal contributions of every Leicester wide man combined.
This is despite the fact the 23-year-old has spent three months out injured but what is obvious is that the Foxes should be doing everything they can to fend off the inevitable competition for his signature.
