Peter Schmeichel has hailed Leicester City’s Premier League title win was the biggest moment of his footballing career.

The Foxes shocked the world in the 2015/16 season as they defied the odds to win the Premier League, and English top flight, for the first time in their history.

Famous results against the likes of Chelsea, Manchester City, and more saw Leicester finish 10 points clear of second-place Arsenal.

Kasper Schmeichel was instrumental in the campaign and an ever-present in goal as the side wrote themselves into the history books forever.

Kasper’s Premier League success was ‘biggest moment ever’, claims Peter Schmeichel

As part of the title celebrations on 7 May 2016, the ex-Manchester United ‘keeper was there in the centre circle to watch his son lift the title with his teammates, and during his appearance on the Stick to Football Podcast, admitted it was the proudest he had felt.

He said: “The best moment in football was watching my son lifting the Premier League title with Leicester. When I was stood in the centre circle and they presented that trophy, that was the biggest moment ever. It was a requirement to be a Manchester United player that you won that trophy.

“That was the bigger moment for me than winning my own trophy. It’s my kid. We were expected to do it, so it wasn’t that big of a surprise.

“Manchester changed when we won the first Premier League, and it was brilliant to be a part of, but you just can’t explain what it’s like when your son is stood there and done the same thing.”

Peter Schmeichel recalls Kasper Schmeichel’s surprise reaction before lifting Premier League trophy

Lifting a trophy is a momentous occasion for anyone in their career, but anyone familiar with the Schmeichel family knows they are about as professional as they come so it’ll come as no surprise to anyone that Peter’s son wasn’t in the best of moods moments before the trophy lift.

Reflecting on the moment, Kasper’s dad told the Stick to Football pod that the Foxes shot-stopper was still irked by an incident earlier on in the game.

“Kasper was one clean sheet away from winning the golden glove,” he stated. “We were standing underneath the stand not knowing what was happening until the game finished and we could walk out.

“I got up to Kasper and he was angry. He was just about to get the Premier League trophy, and he was furious. Turns out he conceded a corner last minute.

“That was more important to him in the moment. He always had that mentality of winning.”

Schmeichel is now plying his trade in Scotland with Celtic, where he is managed by former Leicester manager Brendan Rodgers.
